The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomfeatures a vast amount of side content for Link to explore, spread all throughout the Kingdom of Hyrule. When on the surface, Link will find some type of adventure hidden away in every nook and cranny of the world. This changes dramatically when Link takes to the sky to explore the floating ruins of the Zonai civilization. There are very few side quests in this region ofTears of the Kingdom, so when Link finds something interesting, it is likely worth exploring.

“The Legend of the Great Sky Island” is just such a quest, and is the sole side adventure on the Great Sky Island. Many players have likely noticed the green light coming from the top of the Temple of Time, never realizing it is tied to the area’s sole quest. This guide will explain what happens when Link heads to the light’s source, and how to complete the quest that follows.

What Is The Green Light Over the Temple of Time in TotK?

At some point during most players' time withTears of the Kingdom, they will likely notice a green light emanating from the roof of the Temple of Time. It is visible from a considerable distance, and Link will often catch a glimpse while diving to the surface from nearby islands. This light is, in fact, a beacon meant to call Link to “The Legend of the Great Sky Island.”

This quest, and the light that guides Link to it, will not be available until he completes the “Restoring the Zora Armor” side quest.

How To Start “The Legend of the Great Sky Island”

Once Link has acquired theZora Armor, and can see the light coming from the top of the Temple of Time, he will know he is safe to begin the quest. There are several ways to reach the roof of the Temple of Time, but the easiest begins withusing the Ukouh Shrine(coordinates 0274, -0913, 1460)as a fast-travel point, which every player will have unlocked at this point.

From the Ukouh Shrine, Link can make his way to the entrance of the Temple of Time. Here, he willuse the Ascend abilityto make his way up through the various levels of the temple. When Link has made it to the roof, he will see a large sand garden with a Steward Construct sitting in the exact center. Speaking to this construct will initiate the quest.

How to Complete the Ceremony in The Legend of the Great Sky Island

The Steward Construct will inform Link that he has been waiting for someone to take part in a special ceremony. At the end of the proceedings, if Link completes the required tasks, it will reveal to him the history of the Great Sky Island.

After speaking to the construct once, it will give Link a moment to prepare, telling him to come back when he is ready. When Link returns, the construct reveals that Link must light three fires on the island, and this must be completed before the time limit is up. The construct tells Link he has 12 hours, though this is, of course, in-game time. Finally, the construct will inform Link that he must wait until the morning time bell to begin the ceremony. If Link accepts, time will automatically pass. The ceremony will begin at 7AM, meaning Link will have until 7PM in-game to complete the ceremony.

Before he begins the ceremony, Link is given one final caveat:His feet cannot touch any surface other than the roof of the temple. This means Link will have to float or use waterfalls, and this is where the Zora Armor will come into play. The ceremony is set up with waterfalls perfectly placed to allow for Link’s needs. They will become his primary means of staying afloat, as well as refilling his stamina meter. If Link pays close attention to the waterfalls, he’ll find an easy path from bonfire to bonfire.

Remember to set “The Legend of the Great Sky Island” as the active quest, as this will place a quest marker on each bonfire. It is also recommended that players use the normal HUD here, as the minimap is extremely helpful.

How to Light Bonfire One

The first bonfire is straight out from the roof of the temple, Link just needs to float out to the first waterfall, use it to ascend, then use any sort of flammable arrow to light the bonfire.Pay attention to Link’s stamina, as too many shots can easily deplete the circle.

How to Light Bonfire Two

Link will next set his eyes on the furthest quest marker, with the goal of hitting the final bonfire on the way back to the temple. After lighting the first bonfire, Link will use the waterfall found directly next to it. With this, look south and see the tail of a waterfall beyond the larger island. Link will float under the island, then actually pass the bonfire for just a moment.

Use the waterfall to fill the stamina meter and regain the altitude needed, shoot the bonfire, then swing back and use the waterfall once again. This will ensure Link has the altitude and stamina required to reach the third bonfire.

How to Light Bonfire Three, and Return to the Temple Roof:

After using the second bonfire waterfall again, head towards the series of waterfalls in the ‘winter’ section of the Great Sky Island. This section will be unbearably cold, but Link will not be spending much time here. The third bonfire sits in between a series of waterfalls, making it the perfect setup to take Link on to the roof of the Temple of Time. See the images for the exact location of the bonfire.

This loop should take very little time, allowing Link to complete the ceremony with a considerable amount of time to spare.

Finishing the Great Sky Island Ceremony

When Link lands back on the roof of the temple, the Steward Construct will congratulate him. This story that follows will be one of the few times Link will gain any real knowledge about why the sky islands are where they are. This reward alone makes the quest a worthwhile endeavor, but Link will alsoreceive Zonai fabric as a rewardfor completing this adventure.
