Finally, March has rolled around, and it will be a very special month indeed for hardcore fans of the DC Cinematic Universe. In just a few week’s time Zack Snyder, the producer/director behind the first wave of DC Cinematic Universe films, is putting out his director’s cut ofJustice League, a product long-demanded by fans who believe it to be a superior version of what was put into theaters.

Long story short: when the originalJustice Leaguefilm was being worked on, Warner Bros. was concerned about poor audience and critical reception to the previous film,Batman v Superman. As a result, the studio was a bit trigger-happy about throwing out various scenes, plot points, and film plans.

This eventually resulted inJustice Leaguegetting cut down from a 2-film saga to just one film, and eventually, Snyder left the project due to a combination of personal family tragedy and frustration overthe meddling from Warner Bros. Joss Whedon was hired to completely re-work the film, resulting in a project that supposedly has very little in common with Snyder’s plans, and bombed at the box office.

Now, Snyder is back in the saddle and his new version ofJustice Leagueis getting 4 whole hours of runtimeon HBO Max. In the run-up to his version of the film, which will restore nearly all the scenes he had previously shot plus a few extras, Snyder has been candid about his creative clashing with Warner Bros. on everything from overall plans, to specific characters, to worldwide release dates.

One of those differences apparently centered onSuperman’s black suit. Known as the “Recovery Suit” in the comics, Snyder was a huge fan of the outfit as it originally appeared in theDeath of Supermanstoryline and wanted it to be in his version of the film. At the time, however, Warner Bros. didn’t seem so eager: “I was a big advocate [of the black suit] and [Warner Bros.] were not so much, and we would go back and forth.”

So, the two of them compromised and created a system through which they could easily turn the existing suit into the black and silver one that is now seen in the Snyder cut if they chose to. Now that Snyder has complete creative control over his version, the Superman suit is blackand it was one of the earliest teases for his vision of the film. Hopefully, the suit, and the film, live up to both Snyder’s own vision, and the fans who’ve been waiting for quite some time.
