World of Warcraftis in the process of developingDragonflight, its newest expansion pack. TheWorld of Warcraftdevelopment team just delivered a bit ofDragonflightjoy by sharing a collection of hilarious dracthyr emotes, as well as the unfortunate-but-funny event that led to their creation.
The dracthyr are anew draconicWorld of Warcraftrace being added inDragonflight. The dracthyr come as one part of the new Evoker class – a wielder of dragon magic who devastates foes and restores their allies. These new creatures are the subject of the two-dozen emotes players can download for use on Discord, Twitch, and other social media platforms.

These emojis have a comically tragic origin story. Apparently, one of the character artists forDragonflightmissed a features team meeting due to technical issues, causing them to draw a sad cartoon dracthyr superimposed over a screencap of the dilemma. TheWorld of Warcraftdevelopment team fell in love with the cartoon character, which eventually became part of a series of emotes on theDragonflightslack. Finally, the devs decided to share their collection with the community.
The emotes themselves are adorable and hilarious. A mixture of static and animated emojis, the comical cartoons depict tons of recognizable memes,from the Bugs Bunny“No” meme to the Laughing Lizard. The collection is a little piece of love from the dracthyr Evoker features team, and is free to download for all players from the officialWorld of Warcraftpage.
Fans loved the new dracthyr emojis, and immediately started downloading them for use in their social media. The hilarious story of their creation is a fun peek behind the development window, and got a good laugh out of many. Some fans began editing the emojis to mimic the colors and horns of their own personal dracthyr, as the newWorld of Warcraftrace has tons of customization options.
World of Warcraftis currently in the middle of alpha testingDragonflight. Over the course of the next several weeks,World of Warcraftwill roll out tests for the rest of the zones, dungeons, and specializations forDragonflight. It will likely begin beta testing shortly after, sometime in September or October. The alpha testing has given players the chance to play the new dracthyr Evoker race/class combo and learn more about the history of the dracthyr, dragons, and the Dragon Isles they call home. Players are excited to get their hands onDragonflightlater this year and create their perfect dragon character.
World of Warcraftis available now on PC. TheDragonflightexpansion is set to launch later this year.
