The originalTales from the Borderlandsis a cult classic for a reason. While Telltale’s take on theBorderlandsuniverse took a risk by swapping out looter shooter gameplay for the developer’s signature choice-based style, it succeeded by delivering several memorable characters like Gortys andRhys. After years of waiting, fans will soon get to experience a newTales from the Borderlandsstory.
As of now, it remains to be seen if the nextTales from the Borderlandsgame will bring back anyone from the original. The first teaser for the Gearbox-developed title does not provide any answers in this regard, as it features silhouettes as opposed to full character models. Due to this, fans are left to speculate about who these characters are, and there are a few possibilities.

The Possible Characters in The Tales from the Borderlands Teaser
Tales from the Borderlands’ first teaser seemingly features three characters, and it will be interesting to see if they are all playable or not. On the left, a female character can be seen, with her hair worn up so that it stacks on top of her head. This design does not seem to match any known characters intheBorderlandsseries, though it could possibly be an existing character like Sasha with a new haircut. For now, though, it is safe to assume that this is a brand-new character.
The character in the middle is particularly interesting, as it is clearly not human. It features a large, circular bottom, so it can be assumed it is a robot of some kind. Looking at the bottom half of the bot, it seems like this could be Gortys, as the cute Vault Monster fighter sports large legs after she is upgraded in the first game. With Gortys not appearing sincethe originalTales from the Borderlands, it would be a joy to see the cheerful bot back in action.
However, the one thing going against this beingGortysis the top half of the silhouette. It almost looks like there could be another character clinging to the robot; perhaps Loader Bot could have gotten injured again and is stuck riding on Gortys. However, that seems unlikely since hair and a hat seem to be visible, something that would differ greatly from Gortys’ original look. Overall, this design is very tough to make out, as it could be a remodeled Gortys, two characters together, or one brand-new robot.
The final silhouette is on the right, and it seems like a male character. This could be Rhys, building off the idea that Sasha is on the left and Gortys is in the center. However, just like the models in the middle and on the left, he would have to be sporting a different look from what fans are used to. This character lacks the slicked back hair of Rhys, with a messy hairstyle seen instead. He also seems to be sporting a jacket based on their collar. Overall, the look is reminiscent of Timothy’s design inBorderlands 3, so perhaps players could get to see a new story starring the doppelganger ofHandsome Jack.
As of now, it is hard to make definitive guesses about the silhouetted characters. While these could be some new looks for Sasha, Gortys, and Rhys as they search forFiona, the teaser could just as easily feature brand-new characters. With the male character’s silhouette looking a bit like Timothy’s, too, there are many possibilities. Fortunately, the game is set to launch this year, with a reveal coming this Summer. As such, fans should not be waiting too long for some answers.
A newTales from the Borderlandsgame is scheduled to release in 2022.
