One gamer inWarzone 2’s DMZ mode has found a new and sidesplitting way to dispatch other players using proximity mines. With some clever usage of proximity chat and a well-hidden proximity mine, he turns their would-be getaway into a one-way ticket back to theWarzone 2main menu.
Infinity Ward’sWarzone 2arrived in November 2022, with the all-new DMZ game mode, designed to capitalize on the current trend of extraction shooters in gaming. With similar DNA to battle royale games, in DMZ and other extraction shooters likeEscape From Tarkov, andHunt: Showdown, the players who spawn in a large shared playing space attempt to go in, get loot, and get out, as opposed to trying to stay until they are the last ones standing. DMZ has a solid foundation, however, its current state is more of a proof-of-concept than anything else, with many updates needed from Infinity Ward before becoming the hit that it has the potential to be.

Content creator timmy2cans shared their newestWarzone 2DMZ strategyover TikTok. Taking a leisurely drive through Al Mazrah, timmy2cans keeps a secret in the undercarriage of his vehicle. The first step in the strategy is to find a player and run them over. Then, in a feigned moment of mercy, he tells them if they drop all their money and flee, he will let them revive and live to fight another day. When they comply, he generously offers them his vehicle to make their escape. If they accept the offer, the secret he keeps in his vehicle reveals itself. A sadistically placed proximity mine explodes, killing the player who mistakenly thought they had gotten a second chance at life.

These hilarious clips highlight howincredible of an addition proximity chat is toWarzone 2. While occasionally used to grief and spew vitriol at others, the ability to negotiate, collude, or antagonize players adds a layer of social deception to the game that can make for some brilliant moments. When a potential target starts begging for mercy or bargaining for their life, it adds a fascinating wrinkle to the gameplay loop that can make players think twice before gunning another down.
