Summary
A newFar Crygame is in the works, as revealed by over a dozen new job listings published by Ubisoft Toronto. The Canadian studio completed five games in its 12-year history, includingTom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklistand the last twoFar Crytitles.
Ubisoft put out sevenFar Crygames since 2012, although the series seemingly started losing some steam in recent years. This trend was underlined by the fact thatFar Cry 6was the most poorly-reviewed mainline entry in the franchise. Whether because it wanted to reboot the series in response to its dwindling renown or some other reason, the gaming giant finally decided to provide the franchise with some breathing room following the release ofFar Cry 6.

Nevertheless, Ubisoft Toronto now appears to be setting its sights on a new installment in the series, having just started advertising 15 openings related to an unannouncedFar Cryproject. While it’s possible that the upcoming game isn’t a mainline entry, Ubisoft’sFar Cryspin-offs have historically been handled by the company’s Montreal studio, whereas the Toronto branch was in charge of the numbered installments sinceFar Cry 5.
The contents of the recently surfaced job listings don’t reveal anything of substance about the game itself, although they do suggest that the title still isn’t in active development. That’s largely because more than half of the relevant roles that Ubisoft is currently advertising detail openings for department leads and directors, indicating that the project is still in its infancy. This is consistent with a March 2023leak claimingFar Cry 7hasn’t yet started development.
Ubisoft Toronto presently numbers over 520 employees, according to public LinkedIn data. However, the current size of the studio’sFar Cryteam is unclear. Some developers who worked onFar Cry 6were plausibly moved totheSplinter Cellremake that’s also in the makingat Ubisoft Toronto. Given that state of affairs, it’s unlikely that this mysteriousFar Cryproject will be treated to an official reveal anytime soon.
For context,Far Cry 6started pre-production circa 2016, two years beforeFar Cry 5even released. The game was eventually announced in July 2020 before hitting the market 15 months later. AlthoughUbisoft Toronto also started another project ahead ofFar Cry 6’sdebut, that game ended up being the aforementionedSplinter Cellremake. AAA development cycles have also been getting noticeably longer over the last decade, making it even more unlikely thatFar Cry 7will see the light of day any time soon.
