Coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X,The Precincthas players taking on the role of Officer Nick Ordell Jr., a rookie cop living in a city called Averno. Instead of wreaking havoc across its open world city like inGrand Theft Auto,Precinctplayers are instead tasked with keeping the peace, responding to procedurally-generated crimes.
One interesting feature that the developers have pointed out on the game’s Steam page is the ability to call in for help from Averno police department. This gives players some back-up when they’re struggling to apprehend a certain criminal, with the developers specifically listing squad cards, roadblocks, and spike strips as potential tools players can use to take down the perps they come across inopen worldAverno.
Those that take a look atThe Precinct’s gameplay trailer will notice that the game features both vehicular action and on-foot exploration, a hallmark of theGTAseries, and that it uses a camera that looks similar to the retroGTAgames. The art style is kind of like if one took the firstGrand Theft AutoorGrand Theft Auto 2and remade them with sharper, more modern-looking graphics.
The Precinctdoesn’t have a release date at the time of this writing, but chances are good that it will be out before thelong-awaitedGrand Theft Auto 6. Putting players in the role of the police in aGTA-style game is an interesting twist on the formula, and it will definitely be interesting to see if it pans out.
