The Patrick Star Showwill shine a spotlight on Patrick Star and his family, following the starfish as he shoots a television show from his bedroom. Patrick is helped with his show by his adopted sister Squidina while his parents, Bunny and Cecil, and his grandfather, GrandPat, also support Patrick in a variety of comedic ways. Mainstays of the original series such as SpongeBob Squarepants will also be appearing in episodes of the series in some capacity.

Patrick Star is an icon of pop culture and is certain to bring attention to the series from longtime fans ofSpongeBob,as well as kids from around the world. In this era, manySpongeBobfans believe it’s time for the series to come to an end, as those fans don’t want the series to continue releasing season after season in a similar manner toFOX Entertainment’sThe Simpsons. So it will be interesting to see if a new focal character and new supporting cast members will be able to revitalize the franchise in a way that makes Bikini Bottom just as exciting of a setting as it was in the show’s heyday.

The Patrick Star Showcomes at a curious time for Viacom and its related companies, who are busy buildingthe Paramount Plus streaming service. The burgeoning streamer will eventually house a monstrous catalog of film and television properties includingStar Trek,Transformers,Mission: Impossible,The Godfather, and shows famous for airing on CBS and Nickelodeon. Paramount Plus has hinted at a heavy reliance on well-known franchises to inspire upcoming content, includinga CGI-animated series reboot ofRugratsas well as a series based on theHalovideo game franchise. Not only this, but the streamer plans to release one original film onto the platform per month starting in 2022.

The Patrick Star Showwill begin airing episodes on Nickelodeon this July.
