The Outer Worldsis finally available to purchase through Steam and the GOG store after a year ofexclusivity on the Epic Games Store.

Obsidian Entertainment was purchased by Microsoft before the release ofThe Outer Worlds. While the game came out on competitive platforms, it’s currently unknown if future games will be exclusive to Xbox. Thedeveloper has announced a new title in development calledAvowed, a fantasy RPG based on thePillars Of Eternityfranchise, which could be considered a key competitor to Bethesda’sElder Scrollsseries.
In a surprise announcement, Microsoft purchased ZeniMax Media earlier this year, meaning both Bethesda and Obsidian are under one roof. Since the purchase, many fans have shared excitement about a possible sequel to Obsidian Entertainment’sFallout: New Vegas, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. While nothing has been confirmed, Obsidian did comment on the situation with a shrugging emoji on Twitter.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch version ofThe Outer Worldsrecently received a new patchthat improves the visuals of the game. Players will see a better sky-box, better use of depth of field during conversations and key moments, and more flora and fauna overall. The update also addresses some key issues inThe Outer Worldswith NPC AI, and implements some re-designed buildings throughout the world.
The release ofThe Outer Worldswas met with an overall positive response from fans and critics alike. The smaller scope of the game was well received, with many celebrating the game’s tighter story and unique sense of humor. Industry insiders have indicated that asequel toThe Outer Worldsis currently in pre-production, but while no further details have been announced, it’s likely that a new game would developed for next-gen consoles, or at least the Xbox Series X.
Fans ofThe Outer Worldscan also download the latest DLC for the game titledPeril on Gorgon. As the first of two DLC packs, thePeril on Gorgonexpansion is available now and offers an additional story for the game with new locations, more unique weapons, and absurd characters.
