A strangeMass Effect 2glitch has shown Commander Shepard being placed into heaps of debt by the game. TheMass Effectseries has had its share of glitches over the years, and this one is particularly chuckle-inducing.

As the hero of the series,Mass Effect’s Commander Shepardis one of the most beloved video game protagonists of all time. Many are even hoping for the character to make a return to the franchise in the future, and gamers continue to hope for any indication that Shepard is part of BioWare’s plans for the upcomingMass Effect 4. It remains extremely unlikely, even despite the confirmed return of Liara, but players shouldn’t rule anything out until it is completely confirmed by the developer.

Redditor ThatGermanMustache posted the picture of the strangeMass Effectbug, which puts Commander Shepard, the hero of the galaxy, into plenty of debt. The economy is one of the few unpopular features ofMass Effect 2, with many gamers struggling for cash throughout. Still, the game certainly isn’t supposed to allow players to put themselves into debt. Unfortunately the player didn’t confirm in the thread exactly how the issue happened, but one player suggested that it could be an integer glitch, where the player has too much cash that the game actually doesn’t know how to display it.

Some in the thread had their own lore-friendly theories. One player suggested that this is a self-inflicted issue from Shepard as a result of them having too many favorite stores on the Citadel inMass Effect 2. There was plenty of discussion about the differences betweenMass Effect 1andMass Effect 2, specifically how players are able to spend money in both games. InMass Effect 1, it seems as though it’s impossible to run out of cash, and the game’s economy simply fails to keep up with the player’s progress.Mass Effect 2swings back the other way, making it a genuine struggle to make money, and some would argue it takes it too far.

Fans of the franchise are finally getting their hopes up about the future, with news potentially lined up about the next entry in the series at some point this year.Teasers forMass Effect 4are already out in the world, but up to now, BioWare has kept its cards close to its chest. WithMass Effect: Andromeda’s broken launch back in 2017, many assumed the series was gone never to return. The incredible release ofMass Effect: Legendary Editionin 2021 showed BioWare that fans do in fact want more from the franchise, but it has to be the right product for gamers to return en masse.

Mass Effect: Legendary Editionis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
