Starfieldcomposer Inon Zur has been discussing their thoughts about the philosophical themes in the upcoming space epic. WithBethesda also confirmingFallout 5is in development, as well as working on the nextElder Scrollsinstallment, the Maryland-based developer is keeping busy with plenty of releases for fans to look forward to, whenever they do eventually launch. Of course, these things take time, and there are many important aspects that need to go into a game during the development phase, including music, but fans are still eager to know when the new sci-fi IP will drop.

Unfortunately, there’sstill no official confirmation on whenStarfieldwill be out, though head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty has said it will be coming afterRedfall. Currently, both titles are expected in the first half of 2023, so hopefully there will be word on a more finalized release date soon. In the meantime, composer Zur has been discussing their role in the upcoming sci-fi title, the first new IP for Bethesda in 25 years, as well as giving insight into some of the deeper ideas the game may touch upon.

In a recent interview with the Gamertag Radio podcast, as seen by PCGamesN, theStarfieldcomposer said music is not necessarily about “scope” but about emotion and putting oneself in the shoes of someone, in this case, someone who “gazes at stars.” They went on to say that Bethesda was being particularly “brave and courageous” in tackling some of life’s biggest philosophical questions, including mankind’s destiny and the origins of life. Zur says the game may at least try to answer some of these questions in an “original way.” This discussion starts around the 53:50 mark, but the whole interview is definitely worth a listen and begins at the 39:00 mark.

The composer also talks about their musical inspirations, including being introduced to classical music like Beethoven and Mozart when they were young, and believing that music is about “feeling.“Zur has composed music for games likeFallout, so not only are they no stranger to music in gaming, but they’re also experienced in working with Bethesda.

In any case, it sounds likeStarfieldis in capable hands in terms of emotional composition and allowing players to feel deeply, at least through the music. Whether the game will contain that famousstep-out moment other Bethesda titles havecannot be said at this stage. But it does sound like it will give fans something to think about in terms of the big questions that have been a mainstay in philosophy for thousands of years.
