EA’s latest earnings call has revealed thatStar Wars Jedi: Survivorhas exceeded the publisher’s expectations, with millions of players having already enjoyed the game since its release.Survivorlaunched to largely positive critic reviews on April 28, though it also suffered from severe performance problems that most reviewers couldn’t overlook.
Withperformance patches incoming forStar Wars Jedi: Survivor, however, it does seem that the game’s biggest problems may end up getting resolved in relatively short order. Though it’s unlikely day-one players will forgetSurvivor’s problematic early showing any time soon, the fact remains that EA and developer Respawn are working to fix the issues quickly, and the quality of the game is paying dividends already.

Windows Central has reported that, during Electronic Arts' FY23 Q4 earnings call, company CEO Andrew Wilson said thatStar Wars Jedi: Survivoris performing “very strongly” compared to what the company expected. Millions of players have already givenSurvivora shot, according to Wilson, and the game appears to be doing way better than its immediate predecessor,Fallen Order, did back in 2020. Though Wilson didn’t offer any specifics, some context may be gleaned from the fact that over 10 million players had givenFallen Ordera shot by May 2020, roughly half a year after its December 2019 release.
SinceStar Wars Jedi: Survivorfeatures excellent storytelling, with equally compelling gameplay mechanics and a wealth of content, it seems very likely that this will be a long-tail release for Electronic Arts, drawing in a crowd for a good long while. However, it is curious that Wilson would saySurvivorhas exceeded EA’s expectations. This implies that the publisher either set its performance targets low for some reason or that they were reasonably high andSurvivorwent beyond them anyway.
Whatever the case may be, many gamers seem to feel that Respawn Entertainment’s newStar Warsentry is an excellent game marred primarily by its performance problems. Thedevelopers didn’t thinkJedi: Survivorneeded another delay, which some people have questioned given the state it launched in. However, if post-launch patches continue resolving these issues, the damage to the game’s branding should be minimal in the long run.
Most critics seem to agree thatJedi: Survivoris better thanFallen Order, and fans of theStar Warsfranchise at large are bound to have a field day with the new adventures of Cal Kestis and BD-1. In fact, with the game doing as well as EA claims, it seems likely that more single-playerStar Warsgames might end up getting greenlit down the line.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivoris available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
