One year ago, Square Enix officially announcedDragon Quest Treasures, a spin-off ofDragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Agestarring younger versions of party members Mia and Erik. At the time,Dragon Quest Treasureswas described as an RPG, but not a traditional one. The cryptic description has been left standing in the year since, leavingDragon Questfans puzzled. That may change soon, however, as Square Enix not only confirmsDragon Quest 12development is progressing but thatTreasuresinformation is coming soon.
A special announcement was made on Thursday in whichDragon Quest 12’s development team was described as “working hard.” In addition, it delivered a newDragon Quest Treasuresteaser trailer. The teaser trailer doesn’t contain any revelations itself, unfortunately. It features brief glimpses of in-engine cinematics, sequences shown between gameplay that don’t reveal much outside of context. There’s some sort of celebration with cake and fireworks, a train in the sky, a pink cat with batwings and a green piglet with dragonfly wings, and one other significant glimpse of something more.

The teaser trailer ends with what appears to be an overlook over a portion of the map ofDragon Quest Treasures. There’s a large, cracked eggshell with a city floating at its center and an equally huge dragon’s skull and spine covered in explorable land. Then, to the lower right, there’s a snowy region with a giant tree. A third body of land can be seen behind the eggshell. This is clearly a huge world thatDragon Quest Treasuresplayers will be able to explore.
As for the question thatDragon Questfans have been anxious for an answer to when they can expect to hear more information, the teaser trailer answers that too. The end of the trailer closes with a message reading, “Find Out More in June 2022!” It sounds likeSquare Enixwill be fully unveilingDragon Quest Treasuresat an upcoming event.
Square Enix has previously teased plans for a variety of announcements, including plans forFinal Fantasy’s 35th anniversary. This could mean a special Square Enix presentation is planned for June or that it’ll participate in the Summer Game Fest live event on June 9. Square Enix historically holds its own E3 press conference, but it may choose not to do so due to E3’s cancelation this year.
As forwhat kind of RPGDragon Quest Treasuresis, fans are no closer to an answer. As for what platformsDragon Quest Treasureswill be supported on, there’s still no answer. But fans do know that answers will be arriving next month. Square Enix is asking fans to have a bit more patience.
