THQ Nordic is one of the most fascinating publishers in the video game industry. Originally known as Nordic Games, THQ Nordic has acquired many dormant video game franchises in the past six years since its rebranding to match the now defunct publisher THQ. One such franchise it picked up isAlone in the Dark, whichTHQ Nordicacquired in 2018 from Atari SA. Now, after seven years since its last entry, it seems THQ Nordic might be preparing to announce a newAlone in the Darktitle.Alone in the Darkis often credited as the very first survival horror game, as it was one of the main inspirations for the originalResident Evilalongside the NES gameSweet Home. The game released for DOS computers in 1992 and later came to Panasonic’s 3DO in 1994. The game follows either a male or female protagonist as theplayer solves puzzles and explores a haunted mansion in 1920s Louisiana. The game was followed by three sequels, before being rebooted in 2008 for PS2, PS3, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox 360 by developer Eden Games.RELATED:THQ Nordic Announces Summer Gaming Showcase for AugustThe series went very quiet following the 2008 game’s weak reviews until 2015, when Atari releasedAlone in the Dark: Illumination, a four-player cooperative shooter that was critically panned, receiving a Metacritic aggregated score of 19/100.
