WhenImmortals Fenyx Risingfirst released, a lot of gamers looked at the open-world title and compared it heavily toThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While the games did have similarities, many who picked upImmortals Fenyx Risingfound that the Greek mythology-inspired game was more than just a clone, and had a lot of elements that made it worth playing. Enough people had this realization and bought the game to the point thatUbisoft allegedly began working on a sequel toImmortals Fenyx Rising.
Reports came in earlier this year that a sequel to the open-world title was potentially in the works. Immediately, fans began speculating on what this sequel could look like. Considering the firstImmortals Fenyx Risingtitle dealt with Greek mythology, it seemed to make sense that a new game could depart from that and look towards a new setting. Now, it appears that the sequel toImmortals Fenyx Risingwill be heading for a Polynesian mythology focus, departing from much of the foundations set by the first game.

This rumor comes from industry insider and games journalist Jeff Grubb, who mentioned this change in his Game Mess Decides podcast. Ultimately, Grubb indicated that theImmortals Fenyx Risingsequel is not a proper sequel and acts more as a spin-off to the first game. Allegedly as well, theImmortalstitle will be ditched, and the “production” name of the game isOxygen You’re a Hero, but it’s unknown if this is just a development name or intended to be the actual title. Like other recentUbisoft games such asAssassin’s Creed OdysseyandValhalla, the game will feature a choice of a male or female protagonist.
Also, Grubb goes on to say that the setting will feature a focus on Hawaiian and Polynesian mythology. While a lot of these new features sound like they will depart heavily from the first game, there will be some similarities betweenImmortals Fenyx Risingand its sequel or spin-off. There will still be a god narrator, for example and the visual style is reportedly the same. Ultimately, a lot of these differences are reportedly being made so that theImmortals Fenyx Risingsequel candistance itself fromBreath of the Wild.
While this does seem like a lot of news on anImmortal Fenyx Risingsequel, fans shouldn’t hold their breath for the game. Grubb says that the game is in very early pre-production with a very loose release date of 2025. It seems like this new game will require a lot of work to be done on it, especially considering the departure Polynesian mythology marks from both the main game ofImmortals Fenyx Risingand its DLC, which hinted at a future Chinese mythology setting.
Immortals Fenyx Risingis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
