TheResident Evilfranchise is enjoying a resurgence of late.Resident Evil 7 Biohazardwas considered to be a massive step in the right direction, and this momentum continued with the release ofResident Evil Villagelast year. The full remakes ofRE2andRE3were also well-received, and it looks the franchise is healthier than ever before.Capcom had earlier confirmed thatResident Evil 2,Resident Evil 3, andResident Evil 7will all get updatedfor current-gen consoles. These games will get support for ray tracing, high frame rate, and 3D audio, along with Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers for the PS5 version. Additionally, anyone who owns these games will be eligible for a digital upgrade at no extra cost. It also confirms that DLC which comes with the gold edition ofResident Evil 7will transfer over, which includesBanned Footage Vol. 1,Banned Footage Vol. 2, andEnd of Zoe. TheNot A HeroDLC forRE7allows fans to play as Chris Redfield and is free for all users.
Capcom has not detailed how this save transfer will take place, butXbox fans can rest easyas the process will be done via Smart Delivery. Sony was widely criticized for its convoluted save-transfer system, which usually makes users download both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. It has even resulted in some developers not offering any path to transfer the saves between the two machines. This problem has since been rectified in games likeGhost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, and it’ll be interesting to see if Capcom can manage to ease the process for the end-user.
The upgraded versions of these games will release later this year, but there are several moreResident Evilgames in development at Capcom. DLC forResident Evil Villageand the multiplayer-focusedResident Evil RE:Verseare both confirmed, and several rumors suggest that Capcom is also working on a full remake ofResident Evil 4. Considering the reception and sales of theRE2andRE3remakes, it makes sense to giveRE4a similar treatment. Capcom may even go above and beyond, as many considerRE4to be one of the best games of all time.
Resident Evil 2,Resident Evil 3, andResident Evil 7are set to receive upgrade patches on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S later this year.
