There are several theories as to whyPokemon Zwas never made. The official statement on the subject by the Pokemon Company comes from producer Junichi Masuda, who said that itnever intended to make aPokemon Z. This answer has apparently been satisfactory, pointing particularly to the way that Zygarde, the third of the Kalos legendaries, was relegated to such a minor role in the next, new mainlinePokemontitles,SunandMoon.
Furthermore, the lackluster villains and lack of post-game could indicate that there was meant to be a third game to round outPokemon XandY. Instead ofZ, players havePokemon Legends Z-Ato pick up where the previous games left off.

Lumiose City Ghost Girl
Ghosts have been a frequent part ofPokemonlore since the beginning, but there is one ghost inPokemon’s Lumiose Citythat has been haunting since 2013. On the second floor of an unassuming office building, players will be stopped in their tracks upon exiting the elevator. The lights will flicker and the figure of a black-haired girl will suddenly appear behind the player. She doesn’t have any walking animation, and just glides away, saying, “No, you’re not the one…”
Players have tried, and failed, to connect this mysterious incident with any other part of the game. Despite their best efforts and a decade of wondering, players have not yet discovered the identity of the Lumiose City Ghost Girl. It’s possible that this quick scare was meant to be just that: a kind ofPokemonEaster eggto surprise unsuspecting gamers. That said, acknowledgment or even an explanation of this haunting in Lumiose City would be a memorable addition toPokemon Legends Z-A.
The Message At The Train Station
One theory about theLumiose City Ghost Girlconnects to another mystery in the city. Inside the train station, hidden on the back of a timetable is the message, “I’m going to go for help. Wait in the usual place.” Some have theorized that this “usual place” is the second floor of the office building and that the person waiting is the Ghost Girl.
Possibly searching for whoever left the message is a boy wandering around the train station, who only says, “It should be someplace around here, right?” To this day, it is unsure what these two lines of dialogue are meant to be connected to, or if they have any deeper meaning.
The Locked Power Plant Doors
InPokemon XandY, one of the main problems plaguing Lumiose City is a blackout. Eventually, the player restores power by defeating Team Flare inside the power plant on Route 13. But there are other power plants, including three locked doors in theKalos Badlandsthat are difficult to access in the sandstorm.
Some players have theorized that these were meant to be opened in the post-game but to no avail. Locked doors in video games are tempting, pulling players to attempt to discover the secrets behind them. SincePokemon Legends Z-Aappears to take place in a futuristic version of Lumiose City, it stands to reason that maintaining, and accessing, the power plants may be an important part of the game.
The Train Tracks In Couriway Town
AlthoughPokemon Z-Awill take place within the confines of Lumiose City, the game could still clarify something about the Kalos town called Couriway. In Couriway, there is a train station and train tracks that are said to bring travelers from all over to see the majestic waterfalls there.
Players have long theorized that these train tracks actually connect to either a new, unreleased area of Kalos or another region entirely, while other theories suggest that the tracks lead to Anville Town in the Unova region. WhenPokemon SwordandShieldwas released, rumors started up again abouta possible connection between the Galar and Kalos regions.
As it is, these are just rumors, but an official confirmation about how these regions may be connected would be an exciting opportunity to explore inPokemon Z-A.
After the success ofPokemon Legends Arceusand its influential mechanics, there are now high expectations forPokemon Legends Z-A. These expectations will inevitably involve bringing some closure to tons of mysteries thePokemonseries has lobbed over the past decade. Though these are small details in the larger picture of the game, there will hopefully be answers upon the release ofPokemon Legends Z-A.
