Summary

Pokemon GOcurrently has more Pokemon than any other main seriesPokemongame in existence. Niantic’sPokemon GOstarted off with the Generation 1 Pokemon back in 2016. MorePokemongenerations have been introduced as the years have gone by, with the latest batch of new Pokemon additions arriving in September.

Pokemon GOhas added Generation 9 Pokemonas of the latest update, giving players the chance to catch some Pokemon that originated inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Paldea region. With this,Pokemon GOhas Pokemon from all nine generations of games. The addition of Paldean region Pokemon inPokemon GOmeans that the game has more Pokemon available to catch in any of the main series games. This was pointed out by Eurogamer, who noted thatPokemon GOcurrently has 814 Pokemon available to catch versus the 809 that are available inPokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. There are stillhundreds of Pokemon left to be added toPokemon GOas well, so it seems that the game will always have this advantage over the main seriesPokemongames, barring a change of heart from Game Freak and The Pokemon Company.

The reason whyPokemon GOhas more Pokemon available than any of the main seriesPokemongames is because thePokemongames have done away with the national Pokedex. Starting withPokemon Sword and Shield, it has not been possible forPokemonplayers to catch every Pokemon. This continued withPokemon Scarlet and Violet, and it will likely continue indefinitely as the number of Pokemon grow alongside the demand for better graphics and new features.

While the Generation 10Pokemongames haven’t been announced yet, one can count on them not having a national Pokedex either. But with the Generation 10Pokemongames nowhere in sight,Pokemon GOis at risk of catching up with the franchise. This would effectively leave the game without any new Pokemon to add for an extended period of time, which could potentially drive off some players. Considering this, it will be interesting to see just how muchPokemon GOspaces out thePaldea regionadditions.

There are somenew Pokemon set to be introduced in thePokemon Scarlet and VioletDLCthatPokemon GOcould feature as well, so there are still quite a bit Pokemon left to add to the mobile game, even if it is starting to catch up.

Pokemon GOis out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
