Any Haunter evolved into Gengar during the event, or up to two hours afterward, will learn the Community Day exclusive charged attack Shadow Punch. Just like onWeedle Community Day, players can expect up to 5 “photobomb” encounters with Gastly after taking snapshots of their Pokemon.
Any eggs placed into incubators during the event will also benefit from 1/4 hatch distance, though players should note this does not stack with the existing half-distance bonus. And as per usual, any incense activated during the event’s timeframe will last for three hours, instead of only one.
For Pokemon Trainers looking to enrich their Community Day experience this July, there are also a couple of paid options to help enjoy the day. Players will be allowed a one-time purchase of a special Community Day Box, featuring 30 Ultra Balls, an Elite Fast TM, two Incense, and two Super Incubators.
An additional exclusive Special Research story called “The Great Gastly!” will also be available for purchase for $1 (or its local equivalent). Tickets and additional details for The Great Gastly Special Research have yet to go live, but players can expect the exclusive research to follow in the same general footsteps aspast Special Research stories.
This month’s Community Day has been eagerly anticipated byPokemon GOfans left a bit disappointed by June’s underwhelming Weedle Community Day. Originally offered a vote between Squirtle, Weedle, Gastly, and Sandshrew, fans were charged with selecting the next two featured Pokemon through a special June and JulyCommunity Day poll.
Needless to say, this sparked debate between Trainers who, while hoping for a more noteworthy Community Day Pokemon, were surprised by a choice between several common species, most of which have already enjoyed some sort of special event anyways. The unfortunate Catch-22 of a poll only adds helps fuel the fire ofdisappointing Breakthrough Research rewards, like this month’s Larvitar. That said, at least July’s Shadow Punch Gengar seems to be a potentially viable competitive fighter, so it should be a welcome upgrade to the classic early-game nuisance that is Weedle.
