Summary

The existence of convergent evolutions and regional variants in the world ofPokemonhas inspired many new creations, with one fan showing off a few of their own concepts of new forms for Grimer and its evolved form, Muk. While the latest installments in the core series ofPokemongames have introduced plenty of new creatures as well as new forms for existing ones, the boundless potential for creativity still gives fans more than enough room to work with.

Regional variant Pokemon were first introduced in the Alola region withPokemon Sun and Moon, with several well-known critters such as Raticate, Persian, Raichu, and many more each receiving new forms exclusive to the Hawaii-inspired region. The trend has continued across several generations and regions since, with some of the most recent examples being seen for the first time inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Paldea region. Not to be confused with regional variants are convergent Pokemon, and while these species would seem to be variants of existing creatures, they are more accurately recognized to simply be new and unique Pokemon that potentially share a common ancestor with others.

Still, in comparison to the now over 1,000distinct species of Pokemon, there are only a select few that feature regional forms. This has left the community with limitless potential to work with when it comes to designing new forms for their favorite Pokemon, and one artistic member of the game’s community has recently shown off some creations of their own. Created by the player known as primaljort, these designs were shared via multiple images in a post on Reddit, each of which presents a unique new form for either Grimer or Muk. The designs feature three new forms for each Pokemon, including a Water-type, Poison-type, and Normal-type redesign for both creatures. Each concept is complete with its own Pokedex entry, while also displaying each variant’s ability, stats, and even conceptual shiny form.

While regional variants are very much still present in the latestPokemontitles,Pokemon Scarlet and Violethave once again taken things a step further when it comes to unique Pokemon designs. The various enigmatic new speciesknown as Paradox Pokemonpresent one of the most consequential new additions to the Gen 9 games, with these strange beings depicting distorted but recognizable versions of existing fan-favorite Pokemon in a similar way to regional exclusives.

The awesome new designs that the Paradox Pokemon provide have opened up yet another avenue of inspiration for talented fan artists in thePokemoncommunity, with players having already created countless unofficial Paradox Pokemon over the past year since the Gen 9 games were released. Withseveral new Pokemon brought in with The Teal Mask DLCand more still to come with the upcoming Indigo Disk expansion, fans still have much to look forward to before the year is over.
