Summary

One imaginativePokemonfan is designing Mega Evolutions for the Generation 1 creatures that currently don’t have an official one, including the slimy Muk. This slimy Sludge Pokemon evolves from Grimer at level 38, and both of them could be found in the Pokemon Mansion on Cinnabar Island in the originalPokemon Red and Blue. They would then ooze their way through laterPokemongenerations, even gaining colorful Dark/Poison Alolan variants inPokemon Sun and Moon.

Muk is popular enough amongPokemonfans to receive all manner of horrifying fan art, transforming it into a gas-infused Rock/Poison type or tidal wave-like Water variant. However, it has yet to receive an official Mega Evolution - a special enhanced form that was first introduced inPokemon X and Y. Unlike othertypes of evolution in thePokemonseries, Mega forms are only temporary, and are usually triggered mid-battle when the Pokemon in question is holding a special item known as a Mega Stone.

Of the 1,025 official Pokemon, only 46 have at least one canon Mega Evolution - leaving plenty of room for artistically talented fans to create their own custom alternate forms. A Reddit user by the handle of Conehead is taking the opportunity to do so with theoriginal Generation 1 Pokemon, with their most recent example being Muk. The already creepy-looking Sludge Pokemon gets an even more menacing Mega form inspired by aquatic animals, especially alligators.

Pokemon Fan Makes Muk Slimier Than Ever With Custom Mega Evolution

The artist also included a chart of the 151 Generation 1 Pokemon to help keep track of which ones already have their own official Mega Evolution, which ones can’t due to not being fully evolved, and which ones they have created new Mega forms for so far. According to this chart, Conehead has created custom evolutions forthe mushroom/insect hybrid Pokemon Parasectand Dodrio, the three-headed evolved form of Doduo.

Judging from Conehead’s chart, there are still 47 Generation 1 Pokemon that could theoretically have a Mega Evolution, meaning that they have plenty of options for their next customPokemondesign. For now, their version of Muk manages to be even scarier in its Mega form, with its slimy mouth gaining what looks like jagged teeth to intimidate opponents. With the Mega Evolution mechanic set toreturn in the upcomingPokemon Legends: Z-A, perhaps Muk could get an official Mega form similar to the one already designed for it by a talentedPokemonfan.
