The iconic dual Fire/Flying-type from the first generation ofPokemon, Charizard is easily one of the most recognizable of the long-running franchise. Posted onto a Pokemon subreddit, a user by the handle of u/my_dog_can_dance shows a short video showcasing their hand-made creation. In the roughly 20-second clip, viewers will be able to see a highly accurate depiction of the Fire/Flying-type, posed similarly to some of the character’s earliest sprites. Everything about the Charizard is proportional and accurate, including its green wings, orange body, and even its white-tipped claws. The post is clearly appreciated by fellowPokemonfans, accumulating over 3,000 likes at the time of writing.
Comments on the paper model Charizard are universally positive, with many fans lauding the retro art style as being complimentary to the polygonal nature of the artwork. While the model is somewhat similar in appearance to theMew and Mewtwo paper figuresthat made headlines a few weeks ago, the processes appear to be much different. Rather than just folding the paper to attain the desired shape, u/my_dog_can_dance uses a 3D model to create the pieces, then cuts and glues them into place. The result is an impressive paper model that anyPokemonfan would be proud to display.
While the paper figure is certainly an impressive piece of art, it isn’t the only recent Charizard fan art to be a hit with thePokemonfandom at large. On the same subreddit, another fan has posted their creation of whata real life Charizard skullwould look like. The fan-made art is an incredibly realistic looking skull bearing all of the Pokemon’s features, including its identifiable head shape, horns, and teeth. The skull sports several cracks and scratches, helping to further convey an appearance of authenticity, something that would be nearly impossible to do with just paper.
Pokemonfans' various Charizard creations are a testament to the first-gen Pokemon’s enduring popularity. While allPokemonfans may not be as talented or dedicated, they can still get a fairly unique Charizard item of their own right now. As part of its launch in the UK, thePokemon Center is giving fans a Special Delivery Charizard card, one of the more obscure cards the Pokemon has shown up on.
