Summary
An imaginativePokemonfan has been creating impressive human forms of the franchise’s most notable creatures, with the latest being Gen 2’s Mudkip and its evolutions. Nintendo’s famed series of monster-wrangling RPGs has captured the imaginations of fans for the past 27 years with an assortment of colorful, elementally-empowered Pokemon that grows with each new game. Naturally, there has been plenty ofcreative fan art of these Pokemonthat paints them in an interesting new light, giving them new regional variants or envisioning them as a different type.
One of the talented fans providing said fan art is endifi, a Reddit user who has been posting impressive human versions of various Pokemon over the past year. Their work has ranged from original Pokemon like the Dragonite evolutionary line to Gen 2’s Ledyba and Ledian, and fans have praised them for their work in humanizing their subjects while maintaining the traditional anime art style thePokemonseries is known for. One of endifi’s more recent piecesreimagined Torchic and its evolutionsas humans, and now they have done the same for anotherGold and Silverstarter.
Earlier this week, endifi shared their latestPokemonfan art on r/pokemon, which depicts the Water-type stater Mudkip and its evolutions as humans. Just as they have done with countless Pokemon lines beforehand, endifi goes through each of Mudkip’s evolutionary stages, which consist of the dual Water/Ground-type Marshtomp, Swampert, and Mega Swampert. Each of these stages blends the originalPokemon’s design with an anime-style human, with endifi accounting for each one’s age, size, and appearance. Certain design elements are incorporated into each human’s hairstyle and clothing to ensure that they closely resemble the Pokemon they represent.
Mudkip and its evolutionswork surprisingly well as humans, with endifi doing a superb job in making each design match its subject. For example, Mudkip looks like a cute child in a water-themed blue dress, while Mega Swampert resembles a powerful knight-like warrior with gray and orange assents. Endifi has remade severalPokemoncreatures in a humanoid anime style, and they say that Mudkip holds a special place as their first-ever starter.
Endifi’s work has so far gained much praise fromPokemonfans, and other Reddit users have shared their own humanoid designs forScarlet and Violet’s hammer-wielding Tinkaton and the maskedOgerpon of the recentTeal MaskDLC. That being said, starter Pokemon like Mudkip remain some of the most popular sources of fan art, as they are usually the firstPokemonplayers interact with when starting a new game. Mudkip in particular has been redesigned as a battle mech, served as the inspiration for tastyPokemon-themed desserts, and even given a custom Fire-type variant.
