Since its reveal last December at The Game Awards, Microsoft has been providing a steady stream of information on its upcoming next generation console Xbox Series X. Yesterday even saw the long awaited reveal of thesystem’s new features and hardware specs, leaving many wondering why Sony remains so quiet on its next generation plans. It’s unknown if this is a response to Microsoft’s reveal earlier this week or not but Sony has finally awoken and confirmed its plans for revealing the PlayStation 5.
Finally, after months of speculation, rumors, and reported leaks, Sony has confirmed that the company is planning an official deep dive into thePlayStation 5tomorrow, March 18. Details remain a bit scarce, though the tweet does mention that the deep dive will include a look at the system architecture and how the console will “shape the future of games.” Many fans are holding out hope that Sony will go a step further than Microsoft did by announcing a price point for the system, a release date, as well as a game or two running on the hardware. At the very least, fans should expect to see the actual console as well as numerous features and the official hardware specs.
Recently, lots of talk has centered on the PS5 controller, which may have more than a few interesting tricks up its sleeve thanks to a few recently discovered patents. One points to a vibration control apparatus which is able to understand vibration messages sent from game software and then filter and adjust it based on user preferences. In terms of accessibility, another patent describes an attachment that could be added to the PS5 controller that wouldallow Braille text on a flexible display. What’s great about this is that it would allow players with vision impairments to understand text on the screen.
Perhaps Sony’s reveal tomorrow could actually provide a bit of clarity for fans considering the amount of uncertainty surrounding the planned 2020 release of these next generation systems. Everyone around the globe is currently being impacted by the coronavirus pandemic including those in the entertainment industry. Speculation and reports have even indicated thatdelays could hit both systemsdue to the virus forcing business and manufacturers forcing temporary shut downs. Regardless, fans may finally be getting answers to these pressing questions.
