Overwatchfans, like many other gamers, were shocked by Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard. Many are already discussing what the move means for the future of theOverwatchfranchise, with some even discussing the potential for aHalocrossover.
WhileOverwatchcrossovershave been limited to skins based on other Blizzard properties, it does seem like a possibility that cosmetics based on Xbox exclusives could become a reality. FromGears of War’s COG armor for certain heroes to someElder Scrolls-themed cosmetics, the sky is the limit for such outfits. However, someOverwatchfans seem to believe there is extra potential when it comes to aHalocrossover. Instead of just adding Master Chief’s iconic MJOLNIR armor to the game, players are discussing what it would be like if John-117 himself joined the hero roster.

Given how different theOverwatchandHalouniverses are, this would surely never happen, though players are clearly having some fun talking about what it would be like ifMaster Chiefwas playable. A popular Reddit post from McMagicMarv provides a quick mock-up of Chief inOverwatch. Master Chief has a hero portrait in the bottom left corner of the image that gives him 400 health, with the hero seen wielding a Sniper Rifle pulled straight from his own universe. With a killfeed included, the mockup has plenty of detail.
Alongside an image of Master Chief walking throughHorizon Lunar Colony, McMagicMarv suggests giving Chief an Energy Sword for his Ultimate ability. While Blizzard would need to find a way to differentiate the ability from Genji’s Dragon Blade, it would certainly be fun to wield in the hero shooter. Another Ultimate suggestion comes from Fatastrophe, with the commenter suggesting that a Spartan Laser is used in place of an Energy Sword. This alternative would give opponents time to react but would be particularly deadly in choke points, making it a solid suggestion for Chief’s kit.
Other ideas for theOverwatchhero conceptsee Redditor EverybodyBooped wanting Chief to have an Active Camo ability, while Horizon2910 pushes for a Gravity Hammer to be used. It would also be interesting to see what class Master Chief would fall into. Support is unlikely, and his massive size might also make him work better as a Tank than a Damage character. Regardless, McMagicMarv’s quick mock-up of Master Chief inOverwatchwas responsible for an entertaining and unexpected discussion.
Though Master Chief will surely not be accompanyingSojournas one ofOverwatch 2’s new hero additions, it is always fun to imagine fun scenarios like aHalocrossover. WithHalo Infinitejust launching andOverwatch 2in the works, fans of both properties have a lot more content to look forward to in the next few years.
Overwatchis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
