There are a few reasons why so many members of theOverwatch 2community are looking forward to Season 4. Many are expecting more details on the hero-based progression system that Blizzard has teased, while anew Support herois set to expand the roster in an important way. The removal of map rotation is another major win, and some are even hopeful that the previously teased core multiplayer mode will be added. If it is, it could be a great place for some of the removed 2CP maps to make a comeback.

Overwatch 2abandoning the Assault game mode is not surprising, as players complained for years that it was unbalanced. With defenders at a major disadvantage with the first point - as one failed team fight means the point is lost - and the second point being too difficult for attackers, the removal was understandable. However, the maps featured in 2CP do not deserve to be trapped in the Arcade forever, and a few adjustments could see them worked into other games modes.

Overwatch 2 Could Rework Hanamura

Hanamura is easily the most popularmap removed fromOverwatch 2’s competitive mode and quick play. Featured prominently in the Dragons animated short starring Hanzo and Genji, the Japanese city and temple look different from everything else in the hero shooter. The pink cherry blossom trees are gorgeous too, with many having fond memories of the fights that happen at the second capture point. Perhaps Blizzard could keep these intact by crafting the series’ first reverse Hybrid map. Instead of ending with an Escort section, players could start with one, taking the payload from the city to the temple where Genji and Hanzo fought. Once there, the capture point could activate, with attackers spawning a bit closer to make things more fair.

Overwatch 2 Could Bring Back Temple of Anubis

Temple of Anubis is a map that could fit the Escort formula well. The wall at the attacker spawn could be removed, with the payload leaving the dropship alongside the attacking team. From there, they could push it under the bridge and toward the temple itself, with the strong sightline forWidowmakerplayers remaining intact. However, stopping at the temple would make the map too short, so Blizzard would need to add a new chunk to the map - perhaps letting players fight through the Temple itself.

Lore-wise, Anubis was an AI responsible for theOmnic Crisis, with it being stored in Egypt and protected by Helix Security International - a group Pharah was a part of. In the hypothetical, expanded version of this map, perhaps players could enter a high-tech facility full of flashy machines that house the rogue AI. With the bestOverwatchmaps working in lore, this would be a stellar addition for story fans, and it could make for a more visually diverse map. With Temple of Anubis being one of the best maps graphically inOverwatch 2, it deserves to be seen outside of Arcade matches.

Overwatch 2 Could Revive Volskaya Industries

For the snowy Volskaya Industries, perhaps a Control map could be the best option. The first and second points could each be a map, with spawns shifted so that the area is in the center for both sides. A third point could be added further into the facility, possibly incorporating Volskaya’s office fromSombra’s animated shortor taking players to another part of the factory. Though not as visually unique as Hanamura or Anubis, Volskaya Industries’ floating platforms made for interesting fights, giving it an identity unlike any other in the hero shooter. As such, it should be preserved, making its way to another game mode.

With a member of theOverwatch 2community recentlytransforming 2CP locations into Push maps, there is certainly an interest in bringing back some of the locations. Horizon Lunar Colony in particular works well as a Push map, even if joins Paris as one of the series’ least popular maps. However, Paris and Horizon Lunar Colony being so disliked does not mean that Hanamura, Temple of Anubis, and Volskaya Industries should stay retired. On the contrary, it would be great to see the maps revived inside some of the existing modes, or even the new mode Blizzard has planned for the game.
