SoonPS5gamers will get to see what all the fuss is about, asImmortalityis finally launching on PlayStation come January 23. Sam Barlow said he is “thrilled” to finally bringImmortalityto PS5, and that one of developer Half Mermaid Productions' goals was to share “Marissa Marcel’s life and work with as large an audience as possible.” Marissa Marcel, for the uninitiated, is the actress at the center ofImmortality’s story, portrayed by Manon Gage.Immortality’s main goal is for players to solve the mystery of what happened to Marissa Marcel, and PS5 gamers will be able to take a crack at it soon enough.

What is Immortality?

Like Sam Barlow’s previous games,Immortalitycombines live-action film with video game mechanics. The primary way players interact withImmortalityis by examining film clips, rewinding, fast-forwarding, and manipulating them in search of specific scenes, people, or objects. Players can then click on whatever they want in the scene, which will in turn take them to a different scene. Players bounce around from one movie to the next, analyzing scenes from the films, behind-the-scenes footage, Marcel’s talk show appearances promoting the movies, and more, all to unravel the big mystery at the center of it all.

Critics heaped praise onImmortalityfor its creepy vibes, unique premise, and brilliant storytelling. That being said, not allImmortalityreviewswere glowing, with some criticizing the game for being dull at times, especially if one gets stuck and can’t figure out how to progress the story further. The consensus is still mostly positive though, as evidenced byImmortality’s 88 overall critic rating and the “Very Positive” overall reviews it has from Steam users.
