Players will spend most of their time inNieR Replicantengrossed in the game’s story, characters, and combat. They may beenthralled by its multiple endings, branching plot points, and RPG elements, but at some point they’ll likely step away from that and take a break. When that time does come, the game offers a fishing mini game that can be used to make money, get certain items, and complete certain quests. It is also a required activity for those wanting to hunt down the platinum trophy. One type of fish, the Sardine, is needed for some early quests, so it is often where players start their fishing adventure.

What would an RPG be without a fishing minigame of some sort?NieR Replicantimplements this well, giving each fish a specific location where they can be found a type of bait that they react to most strongly. Players wanting to catch a Sardine will need to have this knowledge in order to expedite the process dramatically.

For starters, Sardines can be found at Seafront Beach, so trying to fish anywhere else for these guys is pointless. Once at Seafront Beach, find a fishing spot and cast the line. For the best chance of catching one, players will want to use the Lugworm bait, which can be obtained from the bait shop in Seafront Beach but onlyafter the player completes the Shaman Fish quest. After acquiring the bait, fish for the Sardines in the same way that the player caught the Shaman Fish before.

For the first quest after the Shaman Fish one called “The Fisherman’s Gambit,” players will need to catch 10 Sardines. This may take a while, especially since players are likely still getting the hang of how fishing works inNieR Replicant, but it may be worth sticking around for a little longer. Later on,players will receive yet another fetch questcalled “A Signature Dish” that asks for 10 more Sardines, and catching them now simply means less time spent later on.

Players can also use Sardines as a source of revenue. For each Sardine they catch, the player can sell it for 125 gold. Admittedly, this is far from thefastest way to get money inNieR Replicant, so unless players are very early on in the game, it doesn’t make much sense to spend too much time farming Sardines for Gold. Catching 20 Sardines should be more than enough, and at that point players can move on to catching bigger and badder fish.

NieR Replicantis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
