Marketing forScream 6is ramping up, and that means a new glimpse at Ghostface. A new photo provides a clear look at the new killer, though it provides few hints as to the mysterious assailant’s identity.

Scream 6is set to evolve the franchise.Neve Campbell will not return inScream 6,meaning her days of leading the franchise as Sidney Prescott are over. The newScream 6image comes fromUSA Today’s 2023 preview. The picture reveals the film’s Ghostface, standing over someone (perhaps a new victim) amid a shady alley. Granted, it’s only a small glance at the character, but the shot reveals a new killer in the franchise.

The picture also provides a clear look at the setting forScream 6. A previously unveiledScream 6poster also paid homage to the New York City subway system, but this is the first glimpse of Ghostface out and about in the city itself. The action in theScreamfranchise is usually confined toWoodsboro, California, and New York represents a significant departure from other settings in previous entries, which usually stayed in isolated areas rather than urban areas like a big city.

Scream 6promises gore in New York City, which is an exciting prospect. The setting is unique for the franchise, and the haunting first teaser for the film revealed Sam and company being stalked by someone in a Ghostface costume on Halloween while surrounding people were blissfully unaware. There’s only been one other scene like it in the movies: inScream 2,Maureen Evans (Jada Pinkett Smith) is brutally killed during a screening ofStab, based on the Woodsboro murders, while the surrounding audience members are unaware.

Screamis known for subverting horror tropeslike the “final girl,” so its take on urban horror is one to watch out for.Scream 6can play with the genre in several ways, and it can amp up the horror when Sam realizes that being surrounded by people won’t necessarily save her.

Scream 6is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 22, 2025.
