Sasuke Uchiha is one of the most important characters in theNarutoseries. Introduced alongside Naruto Uzumaki as one of the main characters in the story, Sasuke only went on to grow in importance. By the second half of the story, he was neck and neck with Naruto as the most important character and, according to the author himself, Sasuke always progressed with him.

This has been consistent for the entirety of the series and has continued intoBorutoas well. In the 4th Great Ninja War in Naruto,Sasuke was seen matching whatever Narutodid. When Naruto went on to unlock the power of his tailed beast, Sasuke gainedthe Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. When Naruto gained Six Paths Powers from the Sage, so did Sasuke. Their portrayal has always been equal in the story, but there is one power-up that Sasuke has not received that Naruto has. This power-up could come into play inBorutovery soon.
Naruto And Sasuke’s Portrayal
Naruto and Sasuke have progressedat a relative rate throughout the series. This is exactly what made them perfect rivals for each other. Both Naruto and Sasuke wanted the acknowledgment of the other person and, for that, strived to be better than the other. Without realizing it, they pushed the other person to grow even more and that is how they became the strongest shinobi to ever live. When Sasuke started to unlock the powers of his Sharingan, Naruto started to gain control over the Nine-Tailed Fox inside him. When Sasuke pulled ahead of him, thanks to the traininghe did under Orochimaru, Naruto made up for it by training using his shadow clones under Kakashi.
When Sasuke gained the Mangekyo Sharingan, Naruto gained the power to use Sage Mode. When Naruto gained the Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, Sasuke unlocked the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. The two then went on to receive the powers of the Six Paths together. Naruto gained access to the Six Paths Sage Mode, while Sasuke was entrusted with the other half of the Sage’s chakra, and he gained the Rinnegan in his left eye.
While the portrayal of these two characters has been very similar throughout the entirety of the series, there have been instances where Naruto has pulled ahead of Sasuke. This was first seen towards the end of the 4th Great Ninja War. Naruto ended up receiving the second half of Kurama which was sealed by Sasuke in a Chibaku Tensei. Once freed,Kurama then went on to stay inside Naruto. It is self-explanatory how Naruto would have gained even more powers after this happened and Sasuke was, more or less, the same. However, Sasuke then went on a journey to redeem himself and, during this phase, he grew significantly stronger.

Cannotically, by the time of Boruto, Sasuke is deemed by Kishimoto to be equal to Naruto Uzumaki despite having lost to him in the past. As such, Sasuke had already bridged the gap between these two characters once. However, the gap grew even wider when Naruto made use of a power known as Baryon Mode. Although temporary, Baryon Mode boosted his powers above the likes of someone as strong as Isshiki. Sasuke could only stand and stare at how powerful Naruto had grown. It was also rather weird to see Naruto being the only one given a power-up, temporary as it might have been, and Sasuke left just standing.
Sasuke’s Next Power-Up
Given the fact that Naruto has received one more power-up than Sasuke, it is a fair possibility that Sasuke is next in line to receive a substantial upgrade to his weapon arsenal. Although this power-up might be temporary, just as it w as with Naruto, it could be one that boosts his strength to the very next level. Fans have not seen Sasuke reach the extraordinary heights that Naruto managed to achieve during his fight against Isshiki and it could be time for him to finally do this. While Isshiki has already been dealt with, there exists the threat of Code and other members of the Otsutsuki Clan.
At the same time, the threat of Kawaki is still looming over the village of Konoha, along with characters such as Ada and Daemon. Sasuke is in a dire need of a power-up. This stands true now more than ever before, given that Naruto Uzumaki has been sent to a different dimension by Kawaki, leaving Sasuke to be the most capable and worthy ninja when it comes to defending the village. What exactly his new power-up will be remains to be seen, however, there is a great possibility that it might happen sooner rather than later.
