With the release of a newMortal Kombat 11DLC character, it is typical for NetherRealm Studios to issue a patch that makes various changes to the title’s general gameplay, specific characters, and more. As such, many fans have been expecting yet another new update to accompany the launch of the nextMK11DLC character, the Joker, who is releasing in less than one week, and that update has now come in the form ofMortal Kombat 11Version 1.14.
Mortal Kombat 11Update 1.14 released on January 21, and it makes some significant changes to NetherRealm’s highly-popular fighting game. The first group of these changes target general gameplay elements, and perhaps the most notable adjustments focus around nerfingFatal Blows. Specifically, the armor that is granted upon executing a Fatal Blow will now have eight frames of startup, up from five, and fighters aside from Cassie Cage will no longer be able to land a Fatal Blow on an opponent that is behind them.

Additionally,MK11Update 1.14 nerfs all forms of jump attacks, as jump punches and kicks can no longer be cancelled into air special moves when Flawless Blocked. So too, the January 21Mortal Kombat 11update makes it so that these aerial attacks cannot be cancelled into grounded special moves upon landing when blocked or Flawless Blocked, and it also increases the recovery frames by four on jump kicks when blocked.
Mortal Kombat 11Patch 1.14 makes some character specific changes too, tweaking 17 of the characters on theMK11roster.While many of these adjustments are quite minor, some are noteworthy, and Cetrion and Geras are two of the fighters that are perhaps most impacted by theMK11January 21 patch. More specifically, Cetrion’s far H2 P0rt now costs two defensive bars, up from one, and Geras’s Titan Charge wakeup and Matter of Time string have both been nerfed as well.
This is just the beginning of the changes made in this newly-released update, and players that would like to peruse the full extent of things can find theMortal Kombat 111.14 patch notes below. While it remains to be seen if this update has a real impact on players’MK11tier lists, it does seem that NetherRealm is interested in shaking things up a bit before the Joker is available in early access on Tuesday, January 28.
