Since his reveal last year, much has been made of the visual style of The Joker inMortal Kombat 11. In the debut trailer, the character drew theire of fans due to its lackluster designand overly clean look. Thankfully, things did end up improving after his surprise reappearance at The Game Awards in December, as his design evolved to appear more like what people were hoping for. Naturally, the reveal also got people speculating on what sort of interesting skins and outfits the character would be getting.

Considering the extensive history of the character in various media such as comics, movies, and TV, fans were hoping to see some truly creative outfits for The Joker inMortal Kombat 11. Following his release earlier this week, fans now know that didn’t really pan out as a lot of his gear is fairly random with a few items that appear to be inspired by the various Jokers over the years.

However, in terms of actual iconic Joker outfitssimilar to the Elseworlds Packfor Baraka, Noob Saibot, and Kitana, The Joker came up a bit short. What makes this even more hard to swallow for fans is that concept art inside of the game reveals early designs of many of the outfits fan wanted to see from the character.

Five concept designs reveals outfits for the Joker that are based on many of his iconic roles over the years including Jack Nicholson in the 1989 Batman film, a Heath Ledger looking Joker with painted on face makeup, and even a New 52 comic version where The Joker’s face is literally stapled back on. Now, each costume isn’t a 1 to 1 recreation but they’re close enough to the actual design that many fans areexpressing their disappointmentthat these ultimately never made it into the game. It’s possible that these could be added over time or in a special costume pack down the road.

While The Joker has been a welcomed surprise to the game in general, most fans are already anticipating the next and final character addition in the first kombat pack. Arriving sometime in March is Spawn and although the studio has been incredibly silent with regards to this character, a few details have emerged in advance of his launch. Veteran actorKeith David is reprising the role of Spawnfor MK11, which should make fans incredibly happy. David has also gone on record to confirm he’s equally as thrilled to be returning to the character, going as far to say that Spawn remains one of his favorite characters.
