The first part of theMinecraftCaves and Cliffs update has an official release date: June 8th. This update, the latest content addition toMinecraft, had previously been delayed since its announcement back in 2020. After being split in two parts, Mojang has confirmed the first piece’s release date while the second portion remains without one.
The pandemic has done much to delay this massive update to themost successful video game in history,Minecraft. Mojang’s switch to remote work and the sheer size of the Caves and Cliffs update has meant this originally unified piece of content had to be split and delivered at different times.

Caves and Cliffs Part 1 will be adding over 90 blocksto the game as well as new creatures for players to find and interact with. One of the more interesting blocks to be added is the copper block which noticeably ages as the player spends more time in the game. The axolotl, the glow squid, and the goat will each be brought into the world ofMinecraftas well. The update will also drop on the Java Edition on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
The announcement of this update’s release is great news for players who have been waiting for theCaves and Cliffs update since its announcementin October. The delays have been par for the course this year with numerous other titles (includingMinecraft Dungeons) and updates being delayed from other developers. Players should note that this is the largest update since last year’s Nether Update that revamped the Nether dimension through biome additions and new mobs.
Circumstances around the globe have meant that players have needed patience when it comes to updates and new titles. It is because of that that this announcement of an official release date is especially welcome news. The Caves and Cliffs Part 1 update has much of what has been promised to players with more than enough content to satisfy until Part 2.
Then again, thesplitting of thisMinecraftupdate into two partsis a bit of a tough pill to swallow. The reasons behind the split are perfectly reasonable but the wait for the full Caves and Cliffs update has been a long dream for players who love the game for its underground exploration. At the end of the day, though, a release date for Part 1 is overall great news andMinecraftplayers should be more than excited.
