Spider-Man: Miles Moraleshas released, bringing critical acclaim and fan delight along with it due to its strong narrative, improved open world, and wonderful combat. It is a short game, though, and whileSpider-Man: Miles Moralesdoes have an improved open worlddue to its brevity, it has its downsides too. Perhaps the biggest is that, by the game ends, players will surely want more time with the young new webslinger, as a 10-15-hour spinoff is not enough.

Insomniac knocked it out of the park with Miles Morales in terms of both his characterization and his abilities, making it a bit of a shame that his adventure is over so quickly. The hero is incredibly fun to play as and has a great cast of characters around him, so a fully-fledged sequel is simply just necessary necessary. With plenty of story threads left hanging and plenty of directions for another Miles-led game to go, a lengthy follow-up toSpider-Man: Miles Moralesneeds to happen, and here is what it could be about.WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS Ahead

Option #1: Kingpin And A Reformed Prowler

The Prowler, Miles Morales’ most iconic comic book foe, has a major role to play inSpider-Man: Miles Morales. While themain villain is The Tinkerer, many of the traditional elements of The Prowler remain intact as he becomes a strong mentor and adversary for the young Miles. The character is still a thief who was pushed away from Miles' family due to a life of crime, but Insomniac’s Prowler is a bit different.

After the death of his brother (and Miles’ father) Jefferson Davis, he has retired from crime and is working to turn his life around. He only suits up to protect Miles, and for the entirety of the game, that is all he tries to do. Even when he eventually fights his nephew in one of the game’s standout battles,The Prowleris only trying to stop Miles from risking his life. At the end of the game, Prowler helps to save the day, a major change-up from the events of the comics andSpider-Man: Into The Spider-Versewhere the flawed character dies during a clash with his nephew.

The Prowler surviving the game’s story and being positively influenced by Miles to help do the right thing is something that can and should be built upon going forward, and a set of side quests set around the Kingpin are the perfect opportunity. WithSpider-Man’s version of Kingpinpossibly working with The Prowler in the past and Wilson Fisk being setup as a threat for Miles via the side missions, a perfect opportunity is in place to tell a strong story around the trio. With new assets not being necessary, though, perhaps this could even be a DLC offering forSpider-Man: Miles Morales.

Option #2: Venom Vs. Venom

In the post-credits scene ofSpider-Man: Miles Morales,Venom and the Symbioteare once again teased for the next fullSpider-Mangame. This has exciting implications for the full sequel to the firstSpider-Mangame. While the story will surely be more Peter-focused, as Harry Osborn’s Venom has a very personal connection to Peter Parker that should be explored, Miles has a chance to shine as well.

The gameplay ofSpider-Man: Miles Moralesis a major strength, and it is hard to imagine going back to Peter’s gameplay styleinSpider-Man: Remasteredor the nextSpider-Mangame after having access to Miles’ Venom abilities. While this may be remedied via new tech for Peter or even Symbiote abilities, assuming the alien attaches to the originalSpider-Man, hopefully Miles gets a chance to shine in the sequel as well. Miles getting to use his Venom powers against the actual Venom character could be a blast to experience, and the potential of two playable Spider-Men is too much to pass up.

With both Spider-Men likely set to share screen time in the upcomingSpider-Mansequel, Miles’ next chance for a standalone game will probably be afterSpider-Man 2(or whatever it is called) has been finished. Perhaps the most exciting possibility for this Miles sequel would be having Miles face off withhis mentor Peter, pitting the Spider-Men against each other. To set this game up, Peter Parker needs to defeat Venom in the upcoming sequel, only to have the Symbiote attach to himself in the game’s final moments. Years after this cliffhanger, Miles can take on a corrupt Peter Parker in a thrilling, emotional finale to Insomniac’sSpider-Manstory — and in a game that makes Miles the main protagonist once again. Of course, this is just fun speculation.

Option #3: Gwen Stacy And The Spider-Verse

After the success of the comic book storyline and the incredible animated film, it would be impossible not to mention the Spider-Verse as a possible avenue for Insomniac to go down in another Miles adventure. With Doctor Strange and The Avengers already existing in thisSpider-Manuniverse, opening access to alternate dimensions of Spider-Men would be a breeze. Beyond that, it would be an incredible bit of fan service, as players have already been makingspectacular homages toInto The Spider-Verseusing the photo mode ofSpider-Man: Miles Morales.

Insomniac’s take on aSpider-Man: Shattered Dimensionsstyle of gamecould be incredible, allowing all the alternate Spider-Men to get a chance to shine. From Noir’s gritty black and white style to the visual splendor of Spider-Man 2099’s Nueva York, the individual cities would be amazing to see on next-gen consoles. Exploring the Spider-Verse after the current Venom narrative is complete opens up countless possibilities for the future of the franchise, and one of the best possible additions Insomniac can make via the Spider-Verse is Gwen Stacy.

Not only woulda standalone Spider-Gwen gamebe great, as players could face off against an alternate universe Kingpin in a neon-filled purple city, but Gwen as a character has major relationships to Peter and Miles. While she could provide closure to Peter through a reconnection, the comic book romance between alternate universe Gwen and Miles Morales would be great to see explored in the games. While Miles has love interest options set up via Danika Hart and Hailey, there is plenty of potential in seeing the long-distance relationship of the superpowered couple explored through the games.

Regardless of what route Insomniac takes, though,Miles Moralesneeds to be a main character in aSpider-Mangame once again. Whether he is fighting alongside his uncle Aaron or taking on a Symbiote-controlled Peter Parker, future entries have plenty of routes they could go in to provide an engaging Miles story. With even access to the Spider-Verse and Miles’ relationship with Gwen Stacy on the table, the future of theSpider-Manfranchise is looking bright — especially for Miles Morales.

Spider-Man: Miles Moralesis available now on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
