Marvel’s Spider-Man 2fans have been dissecting the gameplay footage from the 2023 PlayStation Showcase ever since it released, and there is plenty to be excited about. Miles’ combat section showcased his new blue Venom strikes, while Peter’s Symbiote suit abilities are exactly what gamers were hoping for.Kraven The Hunter’s comic accurate character design proved to be a very pleasant surprise, as did the familiar faces featured on his tablet.

When Kraven was told about the target of his most challenging hunt yet, he was shown a view of New York City that included images of three key characters in the lives of Peter Parker and Miles Morales: Prowler, Wraith, and Black Cat. While all have been in the position of an antagonist in the comics, and skirt that line in Insomniac’s universe, it seems far more likely that they ally with the webslingers inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2- making them perfect targets for Kraven the Hunter.

Black Cat, Prowler, and Wraith Could All Help Spider-Man

When looking at the three characters featured, fans may instantly assume that Insomniac is setting up some side villains for the sequel. However, upon actually looking at the featured characters and how they have been treated inInsomniac’sSpider-Manfranchisethus far, only one being treated as a boss to fight would make sense - and even she will likely end up being an ally when things really get bad.

The character in question is Wraith, AKA Yuri Watanabe,Peter Parker’s former ally on the police force. Twisted by the death of her fellow officers and the legal system failing to keep the criminals she catches locked up, she has become a lethal protector for New York City and is going around killing those who continue to commit crimes. This will undoubtedly cause her to butt heads with Peter Parker and Miles Morales, who avoid killing at all costs, though with the former becoming more unhinged there could actually be some common ground. Wraith is ultimately an anti-hero, too, only killing criminals like fellow Marvel character The Punisher.

With Wraith ultimately trying to protect people despite being a more violent vigilante, she could end up being a reliable ally for Miles and Peter after a brief conflict. The same could be said forThe Prowlerand Black Cat. Both are former thieves and would not consider themselves heroes, but they also assisted their respective Spider-Man when the moment called for it. Insomniac’s Prowler and Black Cat have been set up for redemption and have a bright future ahead of them, so continuing to explore their journey toward heroism would result in them being friends, not foes.

With all this in mind, Insomniac was likely not teasing characters players will fight against in side content and the main story, but figures that will battle alongside them. Team-up moves and finishers could be featured, especially since Black Cat fought alongside Peter inThe City That Never Sleeps DLCand Prowler assisted his nephew inSpider-Man: Miles Morales. Only Wraith would require some fully new mechanics, making it likely for players to team up with all three characters at some point in the story.

When Insomniac Games revealedMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s release dateand concept art at Summer Game Fest, it was confirmed that Kraven will be hunting some other characters in addition to the two Spider-Men. While these figures went unnamed, it would make sense if the three vigilantes from the gameplay footage were the other people that Kraven is hunting. If he captures or kills them, Peter and Miles will play right into his hand, entering into a fight with an expert hunter angry and without a plan.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is scheduled to release on October 20 for PS5.
