Everyone hyped aboutMarvel’s Spider-Man 2wants to know more about the upcoming game. They waited three years after the launch of the original title forInsomniac Games, its developer, to confirm its development, but when the game was finally announced, it was somewhat bittersweet. The game won’t come out until sometime in 2023, meaning fans have to wait around two more years, give or take, to get their hands on it — excluding any possible delays that may arise.
Luckily, it looks like both Marvel and Insomniac don’t plan on keepingMarvel’s Spider-Man 2in a news drought until its release date draws closer. Individuals tied to the project, such asVenom voice actor Tony Todd, are speaking on the game. They can only provide tidbits of information about it at this time since it’s still two years out, but at least they’re talking about it. One executive on Marvel’s payroll recently sat down for his own interview about the title, providing a few more little details.

Bill Rosemann — Marvel Entertainment’s Creative Vice President for Marvel Games — participated in the latest “This Week in Marvel” podcast for a Q&A about Insomniac Games' two upcoming Marvel titles:Marvel’s Spider-Man 2and the surprisingMarvel’s Wolverine. When asked to spill everything he knew aboutMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, in particular, Bill, of course, stated that Marvel wasn’t ready to get too detailed yet, but he did reveal the kind of tone that the game will have.
Rosemann comparesMarvel’s Spider-Man 2toStar Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, claiming that the game’s tone will be darker than its two predecessors. The Empire Strikes Backis famous for having a much darker ending than the original movie, as it sees the villains win in the end — or at least prevent the heroes from doing so. It might not seem like much, but using the movie as a description forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2certainly gives fans an idea of what to expect from the title.
Marvel loves to draw inspiration from the originalStar Warstrilogy, particularly fromThe Empire Strikes Back. The entirety of theMCU’s second phase mimicked theEmpire Strikes Backtonal shift, giving its films both darker storylines and a plethora of severed hands. With both Kraven the Hunter and Venom stalking around inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, the game certainly has the villains necessary to deliver the kind of darker storyline Rosemann promises.
