As one of the big shocks of 2021,Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxybrought surprising emotional heftto a series traditionally known for its humor.Hot on the heels of the much-malignedMarvel’s Avengers,Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxywas a breath of fresh air for players. Despite its appearance on Xbox Game Pass,Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxysaw poor salesthat led to a lack of post-launch support for the game. The lack of DLC was disappointing for the community, with many feeling that the game’s critical reception warranted more content. Unfortunately, nothing ever came to fruition, and the wait goes on for any news on the future of the series.RELATED:Dead Space Remake Dev Starts Production on Iron Man GameThe delisting announcement came from the officialMarvel’s Guardians of the GalaxyTwitter account, stating that the cloud version of the game will be removed from the Nintendo eShop on February 27 at 10.59pm EST. The reason for the delisting is simple - from April 1, thecloud version ofMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxywill be published by Eidos Interactive Corporation, and the delisting is necessary in order to complete a proper publishing transition. However, the game is expected to be available again from April 1, once the transition is complete. The announcement also comes with a recommendation for Nintendo Switch players before the delisting. If a player owns the game but does not have it downloaded, it’s recommended to download the game in case players would like to play it during the delisting period.

With the short notice of the announcement before delisting, hopefully, too many players aren’t without access to their game for the next month. It should be noted that anyone withMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxycurrently downloaded or archived on their Nintendo Switch will continue to have full access to the game as normal.

WhileMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxywas a critical success, the game struggled to attract wider audiences, putting any future games in doubt. Many fans have asked for aGuardians of the Galaxyprequel or sequelto round off the story in a satisfying way, but right now that seems unlikely. However, if other games based on Marvel characters succeed going forward, this could end up being rethought at some point in the future. With the upcoming movieGuardians of the Galaxy 3releasing this year, it’s possible that a resurgence in the character’s popularity could also prompt Square Enix to rethink its current position.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
