As promised, 2K Games has officially revealedMafia Trilogy, anenhanced collection of the first threeMafiagames. This includes a full-blown remake of the originalMafia, though fans won’t be able to get their hands on it until August 28.

TheMafia Trilogyconsists of Definitive Editions of the first threeMafiagames, with theMafia 2and3upgrades available now along with all of their DLC. TheMafia 1remake includes a brand new game engine, new cut-scenes, new gameplay, and more enhancements. This obviously requires a lot more work thanMafia 2and3, which explains why fans will have to wait until later this summer to try theMafia 1remake.

WhileMafia 2and3aren’t getting quite the same level of treatment asMafia 1, they are still getting upgrades. The games are getting “ultra HD remasters” that support 4K visuals, so theMafia Trilogyversions should make the games look better than ever before. Fans can purchase each game separately or together, and those who already ownMafia 2on Steam will get the upgraded version of free. Those that ownMafia 3on PS4, Steam, or Xbox One will also enjoy a free upgrade.

If theMafia Trilogyis successful, one has to imagine that it could potentially lead to 2K games pursuingMafia 4. A trademark leaked last year indicating thatMafia 4was indeed a distinct possibility, but nothing official has been announced. Combine that trademark withMafia 3’s sales success, and it seems likeMafia 4would be a no-brainer.

However, it’s worth pointing out thatMafiastudio Hangar 13 was hit with layoffsin 2018 that saw the company lose a huge portion of its staff. It’s unclear why these layoffs occurred, but Hangar 13’s reduced size could be why it’s creatingMafia Trilogyinstead of a brand new game from the ground-up. Maybe 2K Games has instead entrusted theMafiaIP to a different studio, though that remains to be seen.

For now, those interested can check outMafia 2: Definitive Editionas well asMafia 3: Definitive Edition, potentially at no extra cost. Those more interested in theMafia 1remake will have to wait until this summer to get their hands on the game.
