Duneis off to a fantastic start at the box office with mostly impressive reviews to go alongside that, so what better way to dive deeper into the movie’s filming process than getting a first-hand look from one of its stars, Jason Momoa.
Momoa plays Duncan Idaho inDune, swordmaster for House Atreides and personal trainer for Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides, a character who seems to fit theAquamanandGame of Thronesstarlike a glove. However, for anyone not familiar with the actor’s Instagram account, his talents go far beyond acting because Momoa is also an avid guitar player and motorcycle enthusiast, as well as a blossoming director for his own content.

As part of a series of videos posted on his YouTube channel, Momoa took advantage of his privileged point of view duringDune’s filming to bring audiences closer to Denis Villeneuve’s work and the beautiful locations where the movie was shot. As it turns out, the film’s breathtaking desert scenes were filmed on the Jordan desert, a place that completely enamored Momoa to capture it with a style that’s not too far off from being a home video equivalent ofwhat viewers will encounter when watchingDune.
Throughout hisInside Duneexclusives, Momoa never ceases to express hisadmiration for Villeneuve’s work, and he also reminds everyone how proud he is to have landed the Duncan Idaho role for the movie. For even better sightseeing, the “Wandering the Desert with My Friends”video takes people on a walk across Wadi Rum to see exactly what Momoa’s lunch breaks looked like while filmingDune.
All the videos posted on Momoa’s YouTube page are good reminders thattheDunecast felt like an indie filmwas being put together, which says a lot about Villeneuve’s way of filming such a massive blockbuster. The result has definitely won over most people, asDune’s beautiful visuals and directing already have many looking forward to part two of this new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s masterful sci-fi novels
For anyone wanting to see more of Momoa’s own film work, the actor also debuted a tribute short to the Harley Davison motorcycles he loved so much, which again captures a lot of the same desert vibes his behind the scenes clips do. So, perhaps a full-length directorial debut isn’t that far away for theAquamanstar.
