Ghostwire: Tokyowas first announced during Bethesda’s E3 2019 showcase, where the game’s then-director Ikumi Nakamura made headlines for her eccentric presentation of the game during the showcase. Later the same year, Nakamura announced that she would be departing Tango GameWorks, andlater announced that she had opened her own independent studio. A year after its reveal, the game was re-revealed at Sony’s Future of Gaming presentation, where it was revealed that it would be a timed PlayStation 5 console exclusive alongside Arkane’sDeathloop. The game was originally slated for a 2021 release but was delayed to early 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on the game’s development.

This edition of the game gives players three full days of early access toGhostwire: Tokyofor $20 extra. Unfortunately, physical buyers ofGhostwire: Tokyowill not have any options to purchase the game early, even those who buy the physical deluxe edition. The game will reportedly have a file size of 19GB, which seems small; however, the game seems to have asurprisingly expansive recreation of Tokyo’s map, similar to those found in games such asYakuza.
Ghostwire: Tokyowill release on PC and PlayStation 5 on May 24, 2025. Deluxe Edition owners can play the game from June 07, 2025.
