Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thievesdid a great job of introducing the public to many aspects ofD&Dlore which they may not be familiar with. While many of these aspects were right out in the open, there are others that evenD&Dfans themselves may have missed.

Many will have seen funD&Dcreations like the owl bear and the gelatinous cube in major parts of the story. Other recognizable features likethe Red Wizards of Thay, Themberchaud, and the chunky dragon are also very familiar to fans of the game. But there are still more Easter eggs hiddenwithin the depths ofHonor Among Thieveswhich may have been missed.

Revel’s End Art

8Revel’s End

The strangest thing about the prison in which Edgin and Holga beginHonor Among Thievesis that, initially, it wasn’t an Easter egg toDungeons & Dragonsat all. Revel’s End was created for the movie, and yet delays to the filming ofHonor Among Thievesmean thatD&Dplayers who are up-to-date on the latest additions to the game will already be familiar with it.

Revel’s End was added to 2020’sIcewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaidenadventure. While this is a strange sort of reverse Easter egg, it is unlikely that many fans of the game are aware of the backward status this now has inD&Dcanon. Icewind Dale is justone of the great modules thatHonor Among Thievesfansshould try playing after watching the movie.

7Dagult Neverember

One of the infamous characters fromD&Dlore who appears, albeit briefly, inHonor Among Thievesis the true lord of Neverwinter. While Sofina and Forge have usurped him and left him bedridden, Dagult Neverember is unmistakably the man who returns to power at the end of the movie.

Lord Neverember is a notable figure fromD&Dhistory. While he is mentioned multiple times, he is shown but briefly after recovering from his illness near the conclusion of the movie. It is unknown whether he will return for any possible sequels, but his status inD&Dlore makes it possible, especially since he now owes the adventurers of Edgin’s group rather a lot.

6Elminster

Another notable character fromD&Dlore is Elminister, the wizard who Edgin mentions as being part of the proud sorcerer lineage in Simon’s family. Elminster goes all the way back inD&Dappearances to Dragon Magazine and has appeared inD&Dbooks, games, and card games since then.

Notable as one of the most powerful wizards inD&Dlore, Elminster appears inHonor Among Thievesopposite Simon while he is trying to attune tothe Helmet of Disjunction. While this turned out only to be a figment of Simon’s imagination, it could be interesting to see if Simon’s fascinating family history is exploredany further in potential sequels.

5Rust Monsters

In a blink-and-you-miss-it moment when Edgin and Helga are about to be executed in an alley, eagle-eyed viewers will have spotted some small creatures fighting over a discarded piece of metal in the same alley.

These are rust monsters, creatures that are known toD&Dlore for exactly what their name suggests. The touch of a rust monster can begin to corrode even magical metal, making them difficult to fight with normal weaponry.

4North Sword Coast

When Edgin & Helga escape Revel’s End, they make a long journey on their way to get home. This leads them over several landmarks that may have stuck out to noviceD&Dviewers but will have been obvious to some veterans.

They are traveling across the North Sword Coast, which can be seen quickly before the title card forHonor Among Thieveson a map. A notable region for hosting many of the biggest cities in Faerun, there are sightings early in this journey of the Spine of the World, and mention of Baldur’s Gate.

3Bag of Holding

There is something a little suspicious about the way that Simon is consistently given items to hold that he is never actually shown to have on his person. Without any large gear on him at any time, it is safe to assume that the bag he keeps on him is a Bag of Holding.

Known to noviceD&Dfans as more of a “Mary Poppins” bag than anything else, the Bag of Holding is the TARDIS of luggage. It is capable of holding up to 500 pounds because of a magical effect that creates a pocket dimension inside of it, making it avery useful magical item.

2Cult of the Dragon

There is a lot talked about in regard to Holga’s former family (including one surprising cameo) and the way in which dead members of her clan can help the party find the Helm of Disjunction. But one of the less easy-to-catch Easter eggs inHonor Among Thievesis the mention of who they were fighting.

It is mentioned, though only briefly, that The Tribe of the Elk was fighting the Cult of the Dragon in the battle where they all perished. A hugely notorious group from the Forgotten Realms, the Cult of the Dragon has plaguedD&Dplayers for a long time.

1The Animated Series

A completely ridiculous, yet hilarious Easter egg is seen when the party finds themselves in the maze for the High Sun Games. The other parties that are racing to try and survive the games may just be strangers dressed in rather a flamboyant manner to most viewers. But to long-time fans ofD&D, they will be recognizable.

This party is designed after the party from the animatedDungeons & DragonsSaturday morning cartoon party. Focused on a group of children that get on a roller coaster and are teleported by it into the world ofDungeons & Dragons, and are given magical weapons by a character literally called Dungeon Master. While this cartoon seems a bit of silly fun to watch back today, the characters were kept alive, or not so much, by their cameo inHonor Among Thieves. They definitelyaren’t as tough as the new leading charactersthough.
