There are many realms for players to visit in the world ofGod of War, though it isn’t actually a requirement to explore all of them. For instance, the realm of Niflheim iscompletely optional, with players able to complete the main story without ever stepping foot into its foggy maze. That said, Niflheim is an excellent place to grind for loot and also has plenty to offer when it comes to action as well.

Finding an Anchor of Fog in God of War

Where to Find Anchors of Fog

The Structure Of Niflheim

to know where to look for Anchors of Fog, players will first need to understand the layout of the Niflheim maze. Though procedurally generated, the positions of the actual chambers that make up the maze remain the same with each visit and players can use this to their advantage as they search.

Branching off of the top right-hand corner of the diamond-shaped maze is a large chamber in which players will sometimes be able to find a Legendary Chest. They won’t show up every time, though they are far more likely to appear in this chamber than they are in all of the other areas in the maze and will often contain an Anchor of Fog.

It’s worth noting that Legendary Chests will occasionally spawn elsewhere in the maze, most notably in the chamber where players fight Hildr after the Valkyrie has been defeated. That said, if players aren’t yet strong enough to defeat Hildr this is somewhat useless to them, so the chamber on the opposite side remains the best and simplest place to look.

Dangers In Navigating Niflheim

As they explore the maze, players will be dealing with hordes of enemies, so they’ll need to be careful about how they approach their search. As mentioned above, the top left chamber containsa Valkyrie, and many of the others are also home to powerful foes. As such, it may be better to head straight for the Legendary Chest chamber rather than taking unnecessary damage on the way there, though this approach will lead to players obtaining fewer Mist Echoes per run.

If players are worried about losing the loot collected in Niflheim, they can always leave through the entrance to save anything that has been collected so far.Dying before doing so will mean losing all of the items collected during a run, including any Anchors of Fog.

What Are Anchors of Fog Used For?

For the most part, Mist Echoes will be the primary material needed to activate events and unlock items in Niflheim. However, Anchors of Fog are required to open up three special Realm Tears which will reward players quite handsomely. Each tear needs one Anchor of Fog to open, meaning that players will only need to collect three of them in total if they want to unlock everything.
