God of Warhad a triumphant return in 2018. The game managed to introduce Norse mythology alongside a compelling journey for protagonist Kratos and his son Atreus. While the dust settles from the violent but compelling return of the series, the director of the game has suggested that a Netflix version of the story would be interesting. There are very few fans who would disagree with this idea, although it doesn’t seem like there are any plans for such a series yet.

The latestGod of Warwas released to critical acclaimand while there was less gore than its predecessors, the game did deliver new emotional weight. Since its release, many have pondered where the new story would lead and how the new ideas which were introduced would be expanded upon. With the deeper character provided in the latest installment, it is no wonder that some fans would like to see a series of content around the story.

Creative director of theGod of Warfranchise, Cory Barlog, replied to a tweet that asked about which IP would lend itself to a Netflix-style series. The response of Barlog got many fans excited and it is not too hard to imagine a series on the back of the success ofThe Witcher. Barlog later expanded on his response “I just believe that games would make great TV shows because you spend so much time with the characters in fantastic worlds.” It is hard to argue with that reasoning and despite Barlog denying that this was not a hint of the IP’s future, many will wish it was.

There is a fair amount ofconjecture about the future ofGod of War, but what is clear is that players are hungry for more. With the next generation of consoles coming at the end of the year, there is a distinct possibility that the nextGod of Wartitle will be used to bolster the sales of PlayStation consoles. There are a lot of rumors about the games that will come to the PS5 and alongsideGod of War,there are some very successful titles.

TheGod of Warsequel has plenty of mythology to exploreafter all, Norse legends are vast and have numerous contradictions for the team at Santa Monica Studios to navigate. Whether a web-series accompanies future titles remains to be seen, what is evident is that there is much more of the franchise to come and enough story to keep fans entertained.
