Genshin Impact’s elements are core to the game not only for the design of its many playable characters but also for the overall hemings of each of Teyvat’s regions. MiHoYo’s popular RPG has so far divvied up its playable characters among six of the seven main elements found within Teyvat, with many believing the arrival ofDendro,Genshin Impact’s seventh element, will arrive before the end of 2022. Now, a recent event has fans of the game speculating MiHoYo’s most recent event may be teasing the addition of a seventh previously unknown element.

SinceGenshin Impactwas first released in October 2020, the various elements have been a core mechanic of the gacha RPG’s gameplay. Striking enemies with attacks of two different elements provides a variety of different Elemental Reactions from freezing enemies to creating shields and many players build their teams around maximizing the effectiveness of certain elements. The seventh main element announced with the game, Dendro, has thus far seen enemies but no playable characters yet. Now, the recent Three Realms Gateway Offering event inGenshin’s Enkanomiya region may be hinting at the upcoming addition of an eighth element.

The most recent event inGenshin Impacttasks players with traveling throughout Enkanomiya collecting Light Sigils to exchange for rewards likean event-exclusive weapon, Primogems, and materials. While the event is very standard fare compared to other events, the Light Sigils have gotten players talking about the peculiar event resource. Light Sigils bear a striking similarity to other similar elemental sigils found in other regions and are obtained in similar ways, like opening chests and activating Teleport Waypoints.

While miHoYo has made no official statement regarding a potential new light-themed element, fans of the developer’s other games were quick to point out similarities to events that transpired inmiHoYo’s other flagship game,Honkai Impact 3rd.Honkaihad also has a mysterious type known as ‘Imaginary’ that was implemented alongside the game’s ‘Quantum’ typing, yet did not see a full release for a significant time after. Fans have also speculated that the existence of ‘Quantum’ and ‘Imaginary’ inHonkai Impact 3rdmay suggest miHoYo may intend to add dark and light-themed types toGenshin Impact.

While a new light-based typing would likely introduce plenty of new gameplay mechanics intoGenshin, Dendro will likely come long before the introduction of the Light element. Recent leaks have suggested that the game’s third full region,Sumeru, will likely arrive in the summerwith the region’s central theme based around the yet-to-be-released element.

Genshin Impactalso has multiple options for introducing Dendro element arriving to Sumeru, with the story character Baizhu and the leaked Yaoyao both sharing the element. Between new elements, regions, and characters,Genshin Impactshould have plenty in store for fans throughout the rest of 2022.

Genshin Impactis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is currently in development.
