Television shows about video games have seemed to all but disappear after it was clear that gamers would rather play video games while looking at their TVs instead of watching a show about them. However, with thepopularity of Twitchand YouTube, it would appear gamers are ready to watch shows about games again. With it being clear that plenty of people still watch nerdy shows,G4TVis seemingly teasing a comeback.
G4TV was a TV channel that started in 2002 and broadcasted all kinds of video game-themed programs for years. Popular shows includedAttack of the ShowandX-Play. G4TV is where plenty of popular figures in the gaming industry got to kickstart their careers into a more mainstream role, including Adam Sessler, Geoff Keighly, Olivia Munn, Morgan Webb, and more. Unfortunately, after viewership was on the downward slope,G4TV stopped all production in 2014.

For six years, G4TV was put away into a box and only thought of as a memory. But today, G4TV surprised everyone with an appearance atComic-Con@Homeand various tweets across its show’s Twitter accounts. Each tweet includes a video of a warehouse that ends with a TV set playing an incredibly high scoring game ofPong. Once the music stops, the TV is interrupted to show a G4Tv logo with the words, “We never stopped playing” and “2021.” Fans can assume that G4TV is making some kind of comeback next year.
There isn’t a lot of information to digest with the teaser videos. Other accounts tweeting the same video include theAttack of the ShowandX-Playaccounts so it would appear these shows are in the plans for the revival. It is unclear how G4TV will return, whether it’s back on network television or planning to stream somewhere likeTwitchor YouTube has yet to be announced.
Interestingly enough, G4TV may not be the only gamer-focused network for fans to watch.VENN, a new gaming network, was announced in April and it plans to be a 24/7 gaming and entertainment network. VENN has several different shows lined up that include shows hosted by Sasha Grey and Jimmy Wong. VENN is promising 55 hours of fresh content each week and will be available on YouTube, Twitch, and more for free at launch.
G4TV streaming on Twitch or YouTube makes a lot of sense. Hopefully, if G4TV is on Twitch, it’s a blast of positivity for the streaming service after all the recent allegations involvingTwitch streamers and abuse. Also, Twitch has been making a lot of headlines for having to ban other streamers for various issues so the streaming platform is in need of all the positive news it can get.
