FollowingForspoken’s full reveal, the game that fansonce knew asProject Athiahas been praised for its intriguing characters, fantasy setting, and magic-based parkour mechanics. On the flip side though, delays and extended periods of silence from its studio have had a visible impact on the game’s online footprint.
Luminous Productions’ latest time away from the spotlight is arguably the most intriguing, on several fronts, thanks primarily to its timing.Forspokenis set to launch on PC and PS5 on July 04, 2025. With that date fast approaching, the studio’s decision to pull back has caught the attention of fans and critics alike. Thanks to the palpable silence that’s currently surrounding the game, now is the perfect time to look at where it’s gone and what might happen toForspoken.

Forspoken’s Absence
Even though E3’s 2022 events were canceled, the summer season has remained an important time for games. Over the last few months, studios and publishers have continued to provide fans with progress reports and updates at events like Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. Luminous Productions’ decision to forgo all of these, despiteForspoken’s imminent release date, has naturally raised more than a few eyebrows online.
What’s particularly surprising aboutForspoken’s missing in action status, is the fact that its publisher has been busier than most during that time. Across the summer festivities, for example, Square Enix has announcedgames likeFinal Fantasy 7: RebirthandCrisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion. It’s even provided release window updates on titles such asFF16, which is quite a ways away.

The studio’s conscious decision to remain silent has prompted some fans to question whether or not the game will still hit its October 2022 release date. Considering how the game was delayed 5 months at the start of the year, a precedent has been established if Luminous Productions feels that it needs more time to work on its game away from the spotlight. While there had been rumors that the game could be pushed back tomake way forFinal Fantasy 16(although that stipulation no longer applies), there has been no official update from any party involved withForspoken’s production.
Where is Forspoken?
Thanks toForspoken’s previously announced October 2022 release date, fans are going to get an update regarding its status soon, one way or another. Thanks to the often turbulent nature of making games, it stands to reason thatLuminous Productions is likely still weighing upits options as it chips away at development. With the Covid pandemic and several other global events having impacted the entire industry over the last few years, it would be more than understandable if the studio ultimately opts to announce a second delay.
Even thoughForspokenhas missed the traditional E3 news window, the event isn’t the only way that Luminous Productions could choose to show off its game. After all, several other high-profile events will still be taking place over the coming months that it could theoretically show up at instead. WithForspoken’s next public showcasepotentially being its last before it hits store shelves, the studio’s silence could be because it’s been so focused on making sure it makes the best impression possible.
One thing that could be worth keeping in mind is that, despiteForspokenbeing a part of Square Enix’s domain, it’s still an important game to Sony as well. Theoretically speaking, if the console exclusive makes its October release, it could be the middle part of a special trio. WithThe Last of Us Part 1releasing in September andGod of War Ragnarokpossibly being primed for a November release, the final few months of 2022 could be huge for PlayStation. With this context in mind, it’s possible thatForspokenis being held back right now, in preparation for its own dedicated State of Play presentation in the next few months.
Forspokenreleases June 28, 2025, for PC and PS5.
