For many players, theFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeis a chance to experience one of the franchise’s most iconic stories in today’s standards. Veteran fans, however, will feel right at home with adventures, battles, and other exploits during theirreturn to Gaia. But Cloud and his friends aren’t the only familiar faces since there are many old enemies that will face the group including the Malboro.
The Malboro is a recurring enemy in theFinal Fantasyseries since its debut inFinal Fantasy 2alongside other creatures likeChocobos. Taking on the form of a overgrown plant monster, it can attack the player’s party using a variety of attacks including its signature status-afflicting Bad Breath. While encountered normally during the original game, theFinal Fantasy 7 Remakechanges up where to find the creature, although it can still be taken down the same way once found.

Malboro Location
Unlike many other monsters, the Malboro can only be fought in Hard Mode once players have finished the game once on any difficulty setting. Afterwards, players need to replay Chapter 17 onHard Modeand head to the Combat Simulator. From there, they need to fight a 6 Star Challenge using a 3-person team against the Monsters of Legend: 5 rounds of fights with the Malboro being last encounter.
Fighting the Malboro
To defeat the Malboro, players will want to use Cloud, Aerith, and preferably Tifa. Cloud or Tifa will helpstagger the Malboro while it uses Chow Down, Bad Breath or other moves so players should run away to the creature’s sides or back to dodge most of its moves when possible. Constantly switch between characters to stay behind the Malboro and avoid even more attacks while continuing to fill up the stagger bar with moves like Triple Slash. If anyone gets hit or poisoned, swap to Aerith and use healing such as Magnify Cure to keep the party patched up.
Note that this fight is the only chance to obtain the Bad Breath skill for themselves, so players will need to get hit at least once. Have Cloud equip the Enemy Skill Materia and stand in front of the Malboro when it’s charging up Bad Breath. After learning the move, switch to Aerithand use Esuna to cleanse Cloud of all his status afflictions before returning to the fight.
Despite its impressive history, the Malboro isn’t as strong in theFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeas it was in previous games. With some time and effort, players will ultimately bring it down.
Final Fantasy 7 Remakeis out now for the PlayStation 4.
