Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remasteris finally on its way, and Square Enix has revealed that one fun detail from the original game will be returning, with a few tweaks. So far, the pixel remasters ofpreviousFinal Fantasygames have reviewed very well, with critics discussing the numerous quality of life changes and the enhanced graphical fidelity of these classic titles.
While the remasters of previous titles have proven successful and have their share of fans, the release ofFinal Fantasy 6has been the game most anticipated by theFinal Fantasycommunity. Considered one of the greatest video games of all time,Final Fantasy 6has garnered a massive following since it’s release in 1994, with praise for it’s complex narrative and themes, and variety of interesting characters like Terra Branford and the villainous Kelfka.

DuringFinal Fantasy 6, there a mission in which Sabin Figaro, alongside other members of the party, must do battle while trying to outrun the Phantom Train. One of Sabin’s attacks, Meteor Strike, isone of the most iconic attacks inFinal Fantasy 6, as it allows him to suplex said train to indirectly comedic results. Though many consider this to be a design oversight, Square Enix has confirmed that the ability to suplex the Phantom Train will remain intact inFinal Fantasy 6 Pixel Remasterin a recent tweet.
In a follow-up to the tweet, the team mentioned that the clip shown was taken from a pre-release version ofFinal Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster, as many noted that while the animation of Sabin preforming the action is still there, the attack didn’t follow through on the original version in which the train completely flipped over, which was the source of the hilarity for many players. The development team has confirmed that this will be adjusted for the official release, as the team finishes polishing the game.
This small animation being kept intact forFinal Fantasy 6 Pixel Remastershows the great attention to detail the development team have taken in authentically recreating aspects of the original game for this remaster. Sabin’s attack on the phantom train has becomeone of the biggest memes within theFinal Fantasyseries, thus to see it return, and for the development team to draw attention to it, is very fun to bear witness to.
With the possibility thatFinal Fantasy 6 Pixel Remastercould be the best version of the game, it’s both fun and exciting to know that one the title’s trademark moments will be kept within the game for players to experience. Hopefully ifFinal Fantasy 6ever receives the long-awaited remake treatment as its follow-up did, perhaps we could see this moment brought to life even more fully-realized.
