Ubisoft releasedFar Cry 6in October, returning the franchise to a tropical island after a few games exploring more temperate climates. It saw a successful launch, thoughdidn’t have the best reviews of anyFar Cry. In November, Ubisoft followed up with the game’s first DLC, which let players into the twisted mind of game three antagonist Vaas.

The first ofFar Cry 6’svillain-themed expansions wasVaas – Insanity, released in November 2021. It offered an unusual experience, having players control Vaas through a roguelike shooter taking place inside his mind. The next installment,Pagan – Control, starsFar Cry 4’santagonist Pagan Min. A third expansion focused onFar Cry 5’sJoseph Seed is on the way.

Interestingly,Far Cry 6’s VaasDLC roguelike mechanics were a reference to Vaas’ definition of insanity. InFar Cry 3, he described insanity as doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. However, repetition wasn’t an essential theme in Pagan Min’s story. As such, it stands to reason that thePagan – ControlDLC might play significantly different from the previous add-on.

InFar Cry 4,Pagan Min was the tyrannical self-appointed King of Kyrat, a fictional Himalayan country inspired by Nepal. He takes a particular interest in player character Ajay Ghale, abducting him in the game’s opening cinematic. Players eventually learn that Pagan had an affair with Ajay’s mother and seems to view the younger man as something like a son. If players spare him at the end of the game, Pagan claims that the murder of his daughter, Ajay’s half-sister, drove him to become a tyrant. Hopefully, the new DLC will let fans finally gain a bit more insight into the twisted psyche of the mobster turned monarch.

Charismatic villains have been a key part of theFar CrybrandsinceFar Cry 3’spsychotic pirate warlord. As a result, they regularly take center stage in the marketing, though players don’t get to see all that much of them throughout the games. Thus, some fans were no doubt excited when Ubisoft announced the three villain-focused DLC included in theFar Cry 6Season Pass.

TheFar Cry 6: Pagan – ControlDLC releases January 11th on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
