Considering its long and prolific history,World of Warcraftfans tend to find references to the fantasy franchise in the strangest of places. OneWorld of Warcraftfan discovered the bust of Illidan Stormrage while staying at a hotel in Spain.
World of Warcraftfan coldfox02 shared their discovery on Reddit while abroad for a wedding. The bust itself is located at Xauen, a hotel located in Jaén in the Andalucía region of Spain.

The bust is of the torso of Illidan Stormrage from the waist up. Though without arms or legs, the bust is instantly recognizable astheBurning Crusadeposter childthanks to the iconic, bright green fel tattoos combined with the night elf’s purple skin. Though it cannot be read in the picture, coldfox02 confirmed the plaque on the bust’s pedestal indeed identified it as Illidan Stormrage.
This is neither the first nor the last strange discoveryWorld of Warcraftfans have made in the outside world. Just recently, aWorld of Warcraftfan in Malaysiafound a local hospital had been playing the cinematic trailer for the decade-oldMists of Pandariaexpansion on repeat for years. Another fan also reported a local botanical conservatory which consistently plays Northrend overworld music from theWrath of the Lich Kingexpansion.
Coldfox02’s fellowWorld of Warcraftfans were in awe of their peculiar find. Many leapt at the opportunity to make references to Monty Python’s “Spanish Inquisition” skits, as none of them expected such a find. Others stayed close to source material with their jests, saying the original poster was “not prepared” to find the statue–a reference to Illidan’s iconic line from theBurning Crusadecinematic trailer. A few fans also initially misidentified the bust as Faceless Void, a character fromDota 2with a similar color palette.
World of Warcraftfans have been even more alert to news as of late. While Blizzard has been under scrutiny over the last few years due to discrimination and harassment lawsuits, union busting activity, and unpopular game design decisions, it is slowly starting to rebuild its reputation via open lines of communication, new DE&I positions, and a slew of new game announcements. Right now, all eyes are onBlizzard as it prepares forWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflightand its new mobile game,Warcraft Arclight Rumble, and only time will tell if these new titles can reestablish the good faith it had with its player base.
